Iaido vs. Kendo: How are the Two Katana Skills Different? #Shorts
Показать описание
●Learn more about the differences between the Iaido and Kendo
The two main katana related budo martial arts in Japan would surely be iaido and kendo.
But how exactly are these two different?
IAI of Iaido means “To be constantly prepared to face an opponent immediately.” It is the skill to react to a sudden situation in daily life where you have to draw out your katana and defend yourself.
This is why Iaido practices 形 kata (fixed exercises of certain techniques) with situations such as when someone suddenly attacks you from behind when you’re sitting in a room, or when multiple people attack you when you’re walking the streets.
On the other hand, Kendo is a game/match between two people to safely compete who has higher sword skills, wearing armor and using bamboo swords. It was invented in the Edo period for samurai to preserve the katana culture and train their body and mind in a peaceful era when there were no wars.
Therefore, although Iaido and Kendo are both martial arts related to the katana, they have very different purposes. So being good at Iaido doesn’t mean you are good at Kendo, and vice versa.
