MicroNugget: What are the New Features on the iPhone 5s?

In this video, Jim Anthony covers the new features that came with the iPhone 5S. Apple has moved on to later versions, but the 5S was a leap forward in speed and functionality — students of mobile tech have a lot they can learn from those changes.

The iPhone 5S boasted new features that now seem commonplace, but at the time they were significant advancements for mobile technology.

The 5S unveiled Apple's Touch ID Home Button, a feature that feels standard now. Before that, passcodes were the only way to unlock the device. But the Touch ID enabled instant identification. With it, it became possible to bypass passcodes when making purchases in the App store.

The camera remained 8 megapixels, but Apple updated and improved both the aperture and the pixel sensor area. Their advancements made it possible to get more light onto the sensor and get better images.

There was also the A7 64-bit processor, which came with more RAM, faster speeds, and unlocked advanced features. This enabled faster work with larger files, particular streaming videos.
