I think what's difficult for newer photographers especially is picking a lane to run in. They haven't shot enough to know what they like shooting or how they like to edit their photos. So people tell them to pick a niche and be consistent, but they don't have enough experience to base that on. At least, that was my experience as a new photographer. I was super frustrated when people would tell me to show what I wanted to shoot and edit consistently with my style, because I didn't know exactly what I wanted to shoot or what my style was.

I want to complement you, I have been watching a lot of wedding photography videos and I have started feeling overwhelmed with getting everything to the level of excellence where I would like it. But I have just decided to branch out towards Weddings and you make me feel like it is doable! Thank you for your advice and encouragement.

UX Designer here who's starting a photo business! The NAV issue is the BIGGEST problem I see and did my best to make sure the user journey was clear and concise!

A consistent style is my biggest issue. Still struggling to find out what that is. It’s like I don’t want to miss out on a trend.

I still don't have a real website. Just a landing page. Been going through a brand transformation and working on a book project, and kind of at a loss with what to do about my website given the current state of my photography. Most of my work comes by word of mouth, thankfully. But I definitely feel the need to get that website up and cracking.

I'm guilty of preset-slapping until I just made my own -- not only does it make photos more consistent, it forces you to understand what works for you and how to color grade. Good tips man! Could do a part 2 on SEO but we both know the whole can of worms that is, lol.

John excellent video with one exception. Consistency is important but boring will leave you stranded. Steven Spielberg said put this in your contract and its served me well for years.
4. Artistic Style.  On its own behalf, and on behalf of the subject: Client acknowledges that it is familiar with the Photographer's portfolio and is requesting Services with knowledge of the Photographer's style; that Photographer's work is constantly evolving; that Photographer's services are of unique and artistic nature; that the photos may be different from photographs taken by the Photographer in the past; and that in creating the photos, the Photographer shall use his personal artistic judgment to create images consistent with his personal vision of the Event, which vision may be different from the Client's and /or the Subject's vision of the Event.  Accordingly, Client acknowledges that the Photos shall not be subject to rejection on the basis of taste or esthetic criteria.
Consistency is actually a tool that helps you stay on task. Not so much in my opinion for your client. In short dont box yourself in. As I said everything you said was on point with that one exception. You rock brother. Keep on keeping on. Be blessed. Love your channel.

Hey John

Notice you have a headline block that bleeds into the menu but also auto plays through several images. Was this css as can only add a gallery block that isn’t transparent. Or a headline block that was just one image?

I like the advice, but it doesn't quite fit what I'm interested in. For people who don't book clients, but instead sell prints, what would you advise? I would think a large catalog would be preferable, but am not sure what else I should be concerned with.

What are your thoughts on manual focus lenses for slower paced professional work? Say when you have time to pose a model. Samyang has lenses around the same price as fuji f/2 but are brighter and possibly just as sharp.

Hey John Great Video, I have a question is it better to have examples ion whole wedding or pick and choose best best images from a few weddings?
