☞ My name is Ariel and I’m a Canadian writer and YouTuber. I'm currently making videos sharing the renovations of my 1850s Gothic Revival house. I own five pairs of overalls, organize my bookshelves by genre and then by colour, and my favourite book is Animal Farm. I also co-host a podcast, Books Unbound, where I share my love of reading every week. Thanks for visiting!

Spray the baskets with clear sealer to avoid them rusting again.

I never noticed them before but the treads on your stairs look so lovely!

lovely as always! viewer request: you may have already done this via podcast etc, but could you do a video about the logistics of reading? like, where in your house you actually end up reading consistently, the lighting, the physical considerations, the time of day etc.... you've created these lovely nooks and libraries and bedrooms, i'm dying to know what has worked out and how, honest review style

It's so clear the green ceiling was the correct choice in the upstairs hall. It's SO good.

Similarly, I ask myself, "What if someone stops by? I should tidy!" That possibility is almost non-existent, BUT it gets me to clean and tidy!

I really appreciate how you demonstrate the slow and steady approach to big things. I often feel so overwhelmed because it feels like everything has to be done all at once. But this is a great reminder that wallpaper can be done one section at a time.

My sweet kitty baby girl escaped once and I felt like a part of me died. She was gone a month and a half and we ended up catching her on our porch. I will always tell people to do WHATEVER you can to avoid that happening. I wouldnt wish it on anyone!

Your calm demeanor is welcome and appreciated, love. I love how authentically you your house has become. It's whimsical and comforting and warm. It feels like a lived in home.

I love that you do these updates in piecemeal fashion. I used to think that I needed to get these projects done start to finish in the same day. No more of THAT nonsense !!! Thank you for keeping it real and sane.

fwiw I highly recommend aluminum shower baskets! They're a bit more expensive but they don't rust at all

I'm impressed that all of these tasks are quick and easy for you. With my current skillset they woundn't be. I hope you're proud of all the things you taught yourself in the last couple of years.

I love lists. They keep things manageable and you don't get overwhelmed. And you feel so accomplished when you cross each item off. I made a list of big stuff during Covid and last week I finally crossed off the last one. And yes, I do feel accomplished. Two years later. Better late than never.
