Give us AI that doesn't denounce us every damn turn then maybe I won't have to prepare for war

Don't worry about Casus Belli too much. Everyone is going to hate you anyway.

Typical Civ 6 diplomacy:
2:06 won't accept peace
2:13 NOPE never mind I do want peace after all, silly me :P

Yes, the way warmongering penalties are done in this game are astonishingly stupid. In one game I declared only one war. I believe it was in the classical era. And I took only one city. For the rest of the game all of the civilizations were denouncing me as a warmonger every couple of turns because, I had another Civs city. 1) Over a couple of generations the population of that city would become my population and that resentment would fade. 2) No civilization can maintain hatred for any other over thousands of years. 3) Warmonger penalty, realistically, is mitigated if other civilizations have a benefit by benefiting from your; trade, support etc. This games diplomatic balance on this issue is completely out of whack.

In my last game, war was declared against me, I won and conquered them in the ancient era. As a result everyone denounced me as a warmonger the rest of the game.

War weariness needs another look at. In its current state, it is crippling. Even if you win defensive wars, it can set you back a long way. As it stands, war weariness is not specific enough and damages innocent playstyles and nations.

When I get declared war on and take the cities of my enemy, I should not get a strong warmonger penalty.

I made the mistake of making a really really long, droned out war, lasting over 300 turns. Me vs the world. Think of f it as my last stand. As i watched my cities fall one by one, and realized that i was going to lose, i made a last ditch attempt to salvage my once great empire. I sent my units back to my mainland, abandoning my cities on the other continent, and made a defensive line. It worked for around 50 turns, but was eventually overrun.😢

If I start the game with China or Russia nearby, I have to start prepping for war straight away... those 2 really hate me :(

The warmongering system is extremly annoying in single player games. I might want to go to war with a warmongering civ and then transition into a my win condition wich is not domination. But the warmongering takes way to long to get rid of, so i have to listen to each civ bitch over how much they dislike me. Friends and allies aswell. Relationships does not seem to count for anything in your game. You need to fix how your friends and allies treats you. And warmongering penalty should have a stacking reduction for each XX turn you have been at peace.

Nah. other civs will hate you even if you are peaceful. plus the bad AI requires minimum war prep...

Make no mistake, war is coming. With all its glory... and all its horror.

I feel the warmongering penalty should be lessened if you take a city from a civilization that declared war on you. If I take a city that was only placed there to basically have a beach head near my capital I shouldn't be seen as such a bad guy for taking it and lessening the chances for a second war.

"... Or they are just aggressive!" *shows Germans * :-(
There you have it. We have that reputation as warmongerer forever. In this regard Civilization 6 is very accurate by never letting you get rid of your warmongerer status.
