Added resistance, whether that's from weighted plates or elastic bands, helps build your body past what it's capable of with just bodyweight alone. Good video Scoob

The distinction/conversation should be between closed vs open kinetic chain exercises, rather than body building vs calisthenics

Another thing to point out is that scooby is saying to get "huge" But you can still build a muscular physique without weights. You just cannot build a huge bodybuilder physique like scoobies. You can still build a nice physique tho, like a gynmast, boxer, beach physique with high volume bodyweight training. Be prepared to do thousand of reps tho once you reach advanced levels. Also once you build a physique you can maintain that physique with bodyweight exercises. its easier to maintain.

Actually the definition of calisthenics is: "moving your body through space". Kind of an arbitrary definition, but you can certainly perform callisthenics movements with equipment or weight. In fact, sanctioned "Weighted Calisthenics" competitions are common in Germany.

I dont have any plate weights or gym access during the pandemic, so I just ride my 40 pound bike to the pullup bars and chain it to my body with a weight belt to make pullups more difficult.

even Greg Douchete says if you are strong enought to do pullups in hypertrophy range... you should do em instead of lat pulldowns :)

scooby i love you and there are definitely fake natties on the calisthenics side of things, but you can still get really strong and pretty muscular with calisthenics. there are so many variations of pullups dips etc across a wide range of difficulty. volume and intensity parameters that work in powerlifting and bodybuilding also work in calisthenics. what the real problem is is the oversaturation of calisthenics “programs” that are ineffective for the goals they advertise to address. you’re an engineer! volume x intensity x frequency doesnt discriminate!

Isn't the only difference is that its building different strengths though? Calisthenic exercises build relative strength while Bodybuilding exercises build absolute strength
