I avoided squats when I was nearly 400 lbs….

Even after I lost over 100 lbs I still avoided them

I used to get panic attacks

I was CONFIDENT my busted up knees would get reinjured

I had ZERO trust in myself that if I went down I would be able to get back up

I eventually began to squat with modifications and I was proud each step of the way but what I began to REALLY want was a deeper squat.

There are MANY different ways I improved my squat over time, starting with what I was allowing my brain to make it mean about squats.

The idea of a deep(er) squat seemed SO outlandish in my body, until I did a little research and learned that the human body is DESIGNED to squat.

This exercise is one of the movements that helped me get comfortable with a deeper yet supported squat.

The dumbbells are optional and I did not start with them.

Behind my back is a foam roller that is against the wall around my waist area

I like my foam roller to be longer as it is easier to keep it straight and to place/adjust it

I put my back against the foam roller and lean back

As I squat down, I keep pressing myself into the foam roller as it rolls down with me.

The foam roller will roll up my back as I go down and then back down to my waist as I get back up.

If you ever notice you can get down lower to the ground holding on to something and leaning back a bit, this is the same idea.

The purpose is to get your brain and body on board with squats so they begin to feel familiar again.

Let me know if you are going to try it or if you have any other questions!
