@ anyone who was hateful last video: LITERALLY STOP IF YOURE GOING TO BE A CHILDISH HATER THEN DONT COMMENT AT ALL LEAVE 😤👊🏽

Be an adult and give actual constructive criticism since this is a LEARNING community. Don’t fill her comment section with hate. Fill it with support and information for us all. She is human and she is doing her best!!! You think every plant-tuber is going to be perfect??? Nahhhh they mess up like we do and that’s the beauty of being a plant lover: you mess up sometimes and learn how to prevent it next time. Harli is doing the best that she can YOUTUBING IS HARD ENOUGH DONT MAKE IT HARDER BY BEING A HATER OK BYE.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

I was watching the moss ball earlier and I didn’t get to finish it. Then I came back and saw it was gone, I thought “Why Harli?😭”
But I get it! Just keep doing you girl! Love your content!

I highly recommend MissOrchid Girl and Brad’s Greenhouse for super specific orchid care videos! They have helped me so much!

It’s recommended to cut the flower spike all the way back if your orchid is stressed! That way it has energy to focus on roots and leaves instead of worrying about flowers.

Also, I’ve never owned a paphiopedilum orchid so I’m not sure, but are they supposed to bloom out of the very center? If not, one of yours that you showed cutting the spike off of may have created a terminal spike 😞

Love you Harli!! Your orchids look so happy and healthy ❤️❤️

YES thank you sooo much for mentioning about cutting back the stalk!!! when i got my first orchid last july as a present from my boyfriend's grandpa he was VERY adamant about making sure i knew to cut them all the way back after the blooms dried up (and he worked as a gardener his whole life - i'm shocked that he was so wrong!). i also read online to cut them all back but once the time came i just had a feeling i should only cut off the brown part of the stem and not the rest - which was still green and healthy. Lo and Behold in october it pushed out a new lil stalk with 10 little blooms on it! and i didn't even fertilize it!
you will be saving so many people so much fret and frustration with this great video Harli :D

I live it Utah too. This season I got my first orchid to rebloom. Definitely one of my proudest planty moments.

In my opinion (this is just what works for me and my conditions) I always cut the stalk once it’s done blooming. It will rebloom if you leave it but it won’t be as good of a show as if it had a new stalk. It’s going to give energy to the path of least resistance, So if you keep old stalks new stalks won’t be as impressive due to energy still being focused towards old stalks. For substrate I do a combo of moss and leca in standard orchid pots for all of my orchids. Technically you can’t really over water orchids if the airflow is sufficient (i still let them all dry out a bit). I’ve noticed better root growth on all of my orchids when I swapped out the bark for leca. It holds water unlike bark and doesn’t breakdown and compact since it’s half inorganic (as much). I also keep all of my orchids in west windows with grow lights. You definitely need to acclimate them to the higher light and some are pulled back like a foot or two but the more light the merrier! To an extent lol. I’ve burned one phal but some of my other orchids need higher light like maxillaria or encyclia. Definitely check of your orchids species are sequels bloomers before you cut the spikes!! Lol ok I’m done my orchid care opinion rant.

I started growing all my orchids in water about a month ago and added liquidirt into the water and already have roots and bloom stems coming from two of the orchids I’m so impressed with this growing method. I started doing the water method because I couldn’t keep up with how dry all mine would get so fast and I have far to many to water weekly, or every other day

Harli, i really missed these of videos of yours! I love the information...and although i dont mind your "casual videos" where sometimes you lose you train of thought, i really missed the formalities of your older videos like this one. (if that makes any sense) So thank you for this and all this information! :D

When I got my first orchid, I was told to use an ice cube or 1 teaspoon of water every month or two, that any more would rot it. To never, ever fertilise because orchids are "too sensitive and will always burn". So many people told me to use a well-draining soil mix. And to repot my orchid with 1" of roots into a 4-5" pot otherwise "the roots will suffocate".

Unfortunately this was when I was just beginning my plant journey. I did end up severely underwatering (not as bad as 1tbsp a month at least), never fertilised and had it in a 5" ceramic orchid pot. I used the large, chunky orchid bark since I knew better than soil but uh... Yeah that orchid suffered for months. I rehabbed it in sphagnum moss in a much smaller pot and it's since pushed out two new leaves!

Thank you for this video and THANK YOU for bringing up the ice cubes. People in plant groups still insist it's perfectly fine and that "the water is room temp by time it gets to the roots". 🙄I feel like orchids and Dracaena Sanderiana aka 'Lucky Bamboo' have the most misinformation spread about them.

I recognize those plant tags!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE ORCHID DYNASTY! I only discovered them in January! Ive had 3 orchids for 5+ years but i just picked up a psychopsis (im told once it blooms it will rebloom for 5-7 YEARS sequentially! we’ll see if i can do it!) and a paphiopedilum (slipper orchid) for my birthday… I love Orchid Dynasty! I think orchids are where my collection will expand to eventually… (sorry if I spelled the names wrong I didn’t feel like looking them up to make sure I spelled correctly).

So excited to see you posted this video on orchids! 🤗 I’ve had an orchid for years and it has never bloomed. Sadly, I haven’t taken the best care of it so maybe that’s why it hasn’t bloomed. I’m going to start taking better care of it by following you care tips. Crossing my fingers that it will bloom.🤞🏼

Hubby is having knee replacement surgery on Monday. I was super shopping at the grocery store. They have a floral section. GORGEOUS ORCHIDS had instructions of ice cubes!!!! Made me very sad. Just like Beta fish live on roots of the vase and plant crap that WalMart used to sell.
You look gorgeous as well as your orchids!😘
