I live in an old, dark cottage in the UK. All my plants have to sit near a window facing south or go in the bathroom, which faces west and is generally quite cold, unless it's summer, when it can get very hot by late afternoon. My orchid appears to be doing quite well where it is, which is a sunny windowsill, although the flowers are going over now.
