Psychology Professor Dr. Jordan B. Peterson explains what happens to a social anxious person internally in a social situation. Don't tell them to stop worrying about it', because that never works. A much more effective way is to make eye contact with people.

"Never speak to a group of people. They don't exist. You talk to individuals."
I just needed to hear that.

Funny I was thinking in the beginning "Why does he always look at individual students?" Then he explained why.

"You're at a party..." no I'm not, I don't go because of social anxiety

I need this guy. He makes sense, unlike my "PowerPoint reader" teachers.

This has been helping me tremendously since I saw it. So crazy, just within a few days my social anxiety has been getting noticeably better.

No one:

Jordan Peterson: *claps in girls face* “let’s say you’re socially anxious”

This was really touching. I've suffered a lot unnecessarily. More than I could ever put into words. And it's really moving to hear someone not only understand that problem, but to also understand the solution. And to think people shout-down this man.

I used to think this was the right way to tackle social anxiety. While this approach can help there are various other things to consider. If your body is constantly in a state of anxiety it may be effected by thyroid problems, poor nutrition, autoimmune disorders or posture. If you have poor posture it can increase cortisol levels and reduce testosterone. Exercise has helped me more than anything else.

I get socially anxious when I'm sitting in a room surrounded by people such as a classroom full of students. I can't relax in my seat and I get uncomfortable. My body gets tense and I get in a hunched and awkward position which is bad for my back. It's also hard for me to change position because I feel that people will notice especially from behind. I prefer sitting in the back so I don't get as much attention as opposed to sitting in the front or in the middle. Even if I'm sitting in the back I still get tense because there's people on the side of me, and they can see me with their side eye. They can see every move that I do. It's like everyone is watching me. I don't want anyone to look at me weirdly and I care too much of what other people think of me. People that have seen how I nonverbally act called me weird, annoying, crazy, retarded, scared which is why I'm always anxious in these kind of situations. Entering a classroom is like entering a party to me and I'm stuck in my mind when I'm stuck sitting in a room surrounded by people for 1+ hour.

The worst thing is when a teacher calls on you out of nowhere. My anxiety gets so bad I feel like I’m going to pass out

I used to be socially anxious..I've done psychedelics multiple times and have realized there's nothing to be nervous or anxious about. it just doesn't matter. life is too short and that's an understatement. do whatever you need to be successful, no matter the cost.

The best way to fight social anxiety is to fully realize that nothing matters and life is fleeting.

One piece of advice that’s helped me in various social situations, especially when I fixate on the idea that those around me are judging and scrutinising me, is that everyone is focussing on themselves because they too often feel the same way.

As dumb as this might sound, I have never actually thought about social interactions through the lens of focusing on one person broadcasting what everyone else is thinking. I have always tried to focus on every single person and it always broke me down.

I consider myself relatively wise and intelligent, but for some reason this was never told to me...and it has made an incredible difference in my life.

looking at other people and trying to determine what they are thinking is what agitates my anxiety. Can’t focus. Most people are poker-faced or making odd looks which it’s easy to presume they are judging me harshly (even if they are not)
