The Pixel 8 Pro keeps surprising me, especially as a videographer! And, as I am going through all my footage, I am now legitimately questioning, is it the perfect travel camera… and unless you’re seeing the Pixel in my hand, everything else, is video, ungraded, straight from my phone or images edited only within Google Photos app within seconds, which also has me seriously reconsidering not just my workflow but all the money I have spent on cameras, lenses, and accessories when in more instances than I expected, I was getting better photos and videos than I got with my proper cameras, two full frame Sony’s that I also brought with me on this trip to Dubai, which I will be comparing for you in a few, BUT, I really think the device now in my pocket might just be able to save me or you, thousands of dollars and countless hours if you plan on taking a trip abroad and you’re trying to decide what gear you should bring… as I undoubtedly made more than enough mistakes for you to learn from… and I’ll show you why!

Happy 2024 - Again this trip looks incredible (location, colors, adventure). I like the main idea of cell phone quality and full frame limitation in travel photography. Its funny in way whichever device is the most convenient is the device that takes the photo. Cell phones and camera quality is SO good I'm surprised there isn't more video about composition. By the way, the photos you took, look great and I loved the phrase "computational photo stacking". Did Google use that phrase on their website? Cant wait to hear about the a7cii!!

Loved this! This video made me think of my recent travels thus winter. More often than not, I found myself using my phone a lot more often than my cameras to take photos, especially in Mongolia. I love my big cameras, but now Im really starting to see that the nest camera is the one that is easily accessible, which is my phone. Im going to upgrade my phone this year and skip out on cameras because it's just not practical for me all the time. For big events where the big is needed, Ill bring it, but for light traveling, phones are great!

I think I wrote too much...the phone was lagging. But yeah, great video, especially your implied reasoning that phones are getting to a point where we might not need our big cameras as much as we think. Or at least, as much as I think...this video made me think a lot because these days, Im questioning all the money I spent on camera gear...It wasnt a mistake, but could I have gotten the same job done with my phone, especially for photos that are going on social media? Hmmm, you got me thinking, which great videos do!

My fears are coming true. Mobile devices are going to take over our precious cameras :( Have you looked at what Apple is doing with its cameras? I was going to get the iphone 15 this week but I think I'll wait for the 16. They have a log setting now which excites me in my lower regeons.
It's also interesting that you mentioned how people are completely okay with mobile devices recording but a camera is a no-no. I've experienced this as well actually.
