Clone Your OS Hard Drive to Use with a Larger Drive or Different Computer using Clonezilla

If you need to clone your hard drive to another drive, you can do so for your system\Windows drive or just a disk that contains your data. You can clone it to a larger drive if needed and then expand the drive in the operating system after you boot to your new drive. You can create a bootable flash drive and configure it with the Clonezilla program and then boot your computer with it to perform this procedure. If you need to expand your drive in Windows afterwards, you might need to use the NIUBI Partition Editor to get your free space next to your used space so you can expand the size of the volume to use the entire new drive.

Very nice job. I had a bitlocker installation that I cloned, and in win10 manager it didn't notice the additional space whatsoever past the 3rd partition. That 3rd partiion was 2GB, but nothing after. The Niubi tool saw the remaining disk space, moved over that 3rd partition as you showed here. Then I went back to windows manager and guess what? It saw the 4 partitions, including the unallocated, but only by 2GB... the size of the original 3rd partition! 🤣

So I went back to the Niubi tool, just created a new volume for the remaining amount, and then was able to expand it through windows manager after destroying the partition and then it saw all the available space that time. Expanded, done. Problem solved! Thanks so much.

Absolutely great tutorial to follow. Comprehensive, clear and easy to follow - makes what seems like a scary process very easy and worked a treat! Thanks so much.

FIXED! The solution follows - Hi, I need a little help. After powering off, I can not boot up from the old or new disc! - I removed the second disc to pick up the correct discs. For Clonezilla, it was OK, but for booting, it was not. After adding the second disc, it

The only thing you needed to do was use ''-k1 Create partition table proportionally"

Thanks for the really nice video.

I found that I didn't have to remove the USB drive with Clonezilla, but I had to change the BIOS to only look at the newly cloned drive. Also I'm not sure how to get to Disks & Volumes in Windows 10, but I didn't really need to since the Niubi tool handled that.

Nice job. I never heard of 2nd tool. I normally buy Hard Disk Manager from Paragon but every year they try to make you buy an upgrade.

Similar to CloneZilla.. can GParted do the resizing instead of using NIUBI Partition Editor / macrium reflect / etc?

Well, very excited I tried the process, but my excitement was cut short when the cloning software threw an error that I can't figure out. It seems that the HDD with Windows 10 has some kind of problem and the copying of the central part stops somewhere in the middle. Of course the SSD cannot be used after that. It starts and loads Windows, which detects a problem and tries to fix it, but ends always to an ugly blue screen. But the HDD works fine, Windows starts normal and never gives error.
I tried at least 3 times, first with the standard process and then with error fixing option, but the result was always the same.
Also I tried administrator Command Prompt chkdsk /f for the HDD, but never get any error.

My setup is :
- a USB flash drive on which I put CloneZilla,
- the old HDD, which is a WDC WD1600AAJS 160 GB
- the SSD, which is a brand new Kingston SA400S37240G

Any idea?
