It might sound like twisted logic, but military forces everywhere argue that the greater the firepower they possess, the greater the chance of maintaining peace. In other words, massive weaponry is the best deterrent to war. Right now the theory is being tested like never before, and much of it is happening in Australia’s backyard, the Indo-Pacific region. The United States wants the world, and more particularly China, to know of its increasing presence there, and to do that it’s putting on a spectacular show. Reporting from the hotly contested South China Sea, Amelia Adams reveals the U.S. military in full-flight is an extraordinary sight to behold.

For over forty years, 60 Minutes have been telling Australians the world’s greatest stories. Tales that changed history, our nation and our lives. Reporters Liz Hayes, Tom Steinfort, Tara Brown, Nick McKenzie and Amelia Adams look past the headlines because there is always a bigger picture. Sundays are for 60 Minutes.

Most people do not know the reality of a war. I lived in the DR CONGO which has the most deadliest war after WW2.
Guys, pray for PEACE please!

May God bless everyone with peace, United States and China included. After all, no matter what, peace is always better than war.

What this documentary failed to mention is how important and pivotal the Japanese and the South Koreans are in this region because these nations are also strategic allies of the US that are being harassed by China as well.

60 MINUTES AUSTRALIA IS MUCH BETTER THAN THE USA VERSION. Your accents bring it home but the questioning and investigations are so much better than what USA journalist can provide ! Thank you

The Philippines is very fortunate to have friends with the likes of Japan, South Korea, Australia, USA, the European Union, who will come to their defense in times of atrocity.

It's embarrassing how my country (Philippines) had been colonized so many times in the past and we still didn't do a darn thing to strengthen our own military forces. It's like we don't learn. We always have to rely on other countries to save our own asses. I really hope and pray this isn't the start of a war or of WW3. Prayers to all our military and to Taiwan.

China should take lessons from the efforts of Imperial Japan to extend her empire throughout the entire Pacific region. It started out brilliantly but ended in a massive fireball. China's aspirations also threaten India. If China truly does believe that maintaining the status quo will deliver peace, they should stand down in the South China Sea and abide by the decision of the International Court.
