The Philippines has identified the four new military bases that it will be giving US troops access to. At least one of them will face the South China Sea, paving the way for a greater American presence in key locations in the region. Beijing has accused the US of fuelling tensions. It has warned other countries to be vigilant against being used by Washington. Manila has said the decision to allow a larger US military presence is vital to territorial defence, especially along the main Luzon island's eastern coast. The US and Philippines are expected to hold joint patrols and military drills in April.

The Philippines really went out of its way to please China but the latter just continued harrasing Filipino fishing and naval bases and expand territories within Phlippine territories.
China didn't leave the Philippines much choice but to strengthen military alliances with the US, Japan and Australia.

Being encircled & contained is the same argument Sukarno used when he wages the undeclared war on Malaysia & Singapore long time ago.

The base in Palawan might also become a great deterrent for terrorist elements wanting to come in from the south. I'm glad the U.S. is back. All the diplomacy and goodwill we have shown China has only been answered by non stop bullying in our exclusive economic zones.

The revitalization of a strong US military presence in the Philippines is the primary result of China's own aggressive and threatening actions in the SCS. A strategic miscalculation by XJP.
Without a strong and active US military presence in the Indo-Pacific, it'll be gameover for all countries in this region, including Japan, S. Korea and all of ASEAN combined. Statements made by China on US military actions in SCS do not resonate with the countries facing the SCS. Great move by the Filipino leader. Have tremendous respect for him.

President marcos was so pro china that after elected he visited china. The problem is china which treat philippines not as co equal friends but as a vassal state even to the extend of not letting philippine fishermen to fish in its own territorial water. The relationship became sour because of china

I may not have voted for him but as a Filipino I support this move it's so obvious that China wants to dominate and expand it's territory in the region and the best way to counter this is to bring in the US and hopefully in the future an Indo-Pacific Military Alliance will be formed to counter the threat from China and North Korea

On the South China Sea most of Asia is on the side of America. It is simply nonsensical for anyone to argue that the dispute is simply about the US and China

It's great to see that the Philippine people(literally being native to the Asia pacific/Oceanic region for many thousands of years), are very welcoming to the American people.

America should be eternally grateful to the Philippines for being so graceful in sharing such strategically essential access to provide a safeguard for democracy in the world.
The ramifications of this are profound.

Peace 🙌❤️

The Philippines need to increase their defense budget at least 2.5% annually to be at least on par with Vietnam.
