As an Australian I for one want to thank the USA for their heavy military presence in the pacific region. It means we can afford benefits such as free health care because we are not spending such a huge chunk of budget on the military.

Actually, you guys got Germany and Japan quite backwards. Germany has allowed their military to fall into relative disrepair since the collapse of the USSR, while the Japanese Defense Force has become quite powerful. The Germans, until recently, thought there was little chance of there being a war in Europe, while Japan has been fearful of China and North Korea. The U.S. military also pulled out of the Philippines in 1992, after their government voted to end the presence. The U.S. pulled out of Saudi Arabia as well. In fact, there are multiple countries that changed their minds, and the U.S. left.

The US had a big naval base in Subic Philippines before but the Government voted to kick them out. 20 years later, China claimed the entire South China Sea is theirs and built island bases. I think if the Philippine Government didnt boot out the US base, China might hesitate claiming territory under the Phils' exclusive economic zone.

Context is king.

Marine Expeditionary Units are traveling bases. It is a base expectation that one is able to be Activated and traveling in 72 hours. They actively practice these deployments constantly across the ocean. Marines are the Navy's rifle, so they a base that floats. LoL

It is used as a standard of measurement when responding to other events.

The United States military is powerful not just because "it's weapons" but it's ability to mobilize it's variety of weapons with tremendous speed.

One issue with the video is the part about Japan, they very recently changed from defensive only due to China becoming more and more hostile

As a Brit, i will always be happy to have US bases in the UK. We stand together, we fight for each other, as we have done many times, and we will never be defeated. The UK may not have the military strength of the US, but if, or when, they needed our help, we would stand side by side. I’m sure not everyone agrees with me, but that is MY belief 🇬🇧❤️🇺🇸

In the words of General Shepherd.
"We are the most powerful military force in the history of man. Every fight is our fight. Because what happens over here, matters over there. We don't get to sit one out. Learning to use the tools of modern warfare is the difference between the prospering of your people, and utter destruction. We can't give you freedom. But we can give you the know-how to acquire it. And that, my friends, is worth more than a whole army base of steel. Sure it matters who's got the biggest stick, but it matters a helluva lot more who's swinging it. "

Periods in history with a sole super-power has always been the most peaceful and stable, overall. From ancient Rome, to the Ottomans, to modern USA: stabilityy is more or less assured. Just look at Armenia: the moment Russia is not able to ensure security in the region: war breaks out between Armenia and Azerbaijan. THe moment Western Roman empire fell, western Europe fell into chaos. Say what you will, having a strong US military presence in a country allowed that country to prosper (Japan, West Germany, South Korea, Panama, etc.). In the 21st century, we are fortunate that the sole empire is democratic and secular, with a powerful judicial system.

I can attest to local populations needing bases. When I was stationed in Ft McCoy, WI in the early 2000s the base was on the chopping block for potential shutdown. The two local towns, Tomah and Sparta were quick to protest that outcome since supposedly it would have been a heavy blow to their economies. It ended up staying active.

The U.S. doesn't even know how many bases they have. That's how much they got.

There are friendly bases given to host country like in Morocco. They turned the base into an airport. Also, there are many bases based in the U.S. that hosts foreign military. I remember Ft. Bliss has permanent Japanese and German complexes, as well as British serving in American units there.

The US had bases in the Philippines that they didn't want to leave 30 years ago. The Philippine legislature voted them out. They've been converted partly into special economic zones and bases for the Philippine military.

First, if your country has U.S. Military bases anyone invading you runs the risk of getting the U.S. involved. Either on purpose or by accident
Second, there's a lot of money involved in military bases. Most towns near military bases have economies that rely heavily on the military personnel spending money off base
Third, if your country has a lot of U.S. military you don't have to spend as much on your own military
Fourth, the United States can be a bully that people don't want to upset

As for the U.S. not having foreign military bases in its own territory. We do tend to bring a lot of military personnel from other countries to the U.S. for training on our bases
Which is cheaper for them

In Puerto Rico the Roosevelt Roads Base was closed down by the people after one security guard was killed by a missile in a jet training exercise. It led to the entire region of the Island to economic collapse.

I would rather have a US military base near my backyard rather the Russian or a Chinese one.

lets not forget that when the US announces theyre going to leave a country, the locals protest because US presence is good for the local economy of a nation.
