Japan has unveiled plans for its biggest military build-up since World War Two. The government says it will double defense spending, bringing it up to the NATO standard of two percent of GDP. Japan's move away from a 'self-defense only' stance comes as it seeks to counter regional threats. It plans to acquire long-range missiles capable of striking China. Beijing said the plans undermine bilateral relations.

Having Japan on your side is so important. They’re the only country to have defeated a giant lizard, a three headed giant monster from outer space, a giant worm and a giant flying tortoise. What other country can boast such feats

Japan did the right thing by honoring the peacetime treaty with the United States after WW2, but that time has long passed and it has a right to a full Military. Here in Australia, we are refurbishing the airforce base called Tindal near Darwin for use by the USA and Japan. Both countries will be welcome to train and host their forces on Australian bases, which is a spectacular and positive step for the alliance.

I love Japan's no nonsense approach to everything, it's what makes their country one of the greatest and respected.

I fully support the people of Japan who must be prepared to defend themselves.

I’ve worked with the JGSDF in some bilateral exercises. Incredibly professional force. This makes me happy.

Seriously Japan has always been strong, and a Japan that has the capability to not only defend itself and but assist allies around the world make it even more of a world player than it already is.

Go, Japan! As an American, I am very glad that Japan is counted among my country's allies. When the Japanese put their minds to a task, they get it done and they do it right! From Utah, USA.

Im surprised this didnt happen sooner. Japan has exercised so much restraint when dealing with its hostile neighbors. How many missiles have landed in the Sea of Japan off its coast and they have been entierly reserved. Japan should be applauded for having such restraint, but you can only push someone so far until they have had enough, and it seems like Japan has reached that point.

Japan has not been in a war since World War 2.

China however is an authoritarian Orwellian 1984 regime that crushes dissidents like at the Tiananmen Square massacre. Invades and annexed countries like Tibet and many others. Has invaded India, Vietnam, and tried to invade Taiwan. Literally engaged in genocides against the Tibetans, Uyghurs, and many others. During the Cultural Revolution millions were raped, murdered, and cannibalised by Chinese Red Guard Students. During the Great Leap Forward implemented by Mao Zedong where TENS OF MILLIONS of Chinese civilians died from famines. China has killed more of its own population than the former Imperialist Japanese Empire ever dreamed of.

Which of these two countries would you rather side with? The one that's having violent border clashes with India another nuclear power or Japan a modern democracy? China has become the new Imperial Empire of the 21st century who want to conquer and dominate all of Asia because the Han Chinese see themselves as the superior master race among Asians.

Japan has become one of the greatest democracies in human history after World War 2 while China has become a threat to all of Asia that has border clashes with India and wants to unite all of Asia under its influence.

As a German citizen, I fully support Japan. I wish Germany would finally get serious about it and give its armed forces the necessary qualifications to be a reliable ally nationally and internationally. japan goes the right way and braces itself for the surrounding dangers. I hope that Germany will intensify its cooperation with Japan and that we can and want to counter the dangers of today and tomorrow together.

I’ve been watching WW1 documentaries lately and it’s scary to see the similarities from then and now. I haven’t seen big countries bulk up like this in my lifetime
