I know someone who had a man refuse to date her because she was sealed to her deceased husband and they wanted to be sealed to someone. It is so damaging to turn away beautiful fulfilling relationships because there is this "eternal reality" people hold onto.

I live in Utah. I have a co worker who gave away his pet cat before he asked his wife out on their first date because she's allergic. They tell this like it's this grand, romantic story, but that's just creepy. He also talks about how mad he would have been if she had said no, because he really loved the cat.

Stevie Wonder:
When you believe in things
That you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way,
No, no, no

This is an example of mind control by a cult. Worrying about fictional problems.

it's not his fault. it's the church that taught him the importance of it.

TBF when a person is raised in a religion that literally teaches them that their eternal exaltation depends on them being sealed to someone else in the temple, it really makes sense why the dude was so hyper-focused on this issue and stressing about it. To her it was weird, but from his pov he was seriously concerned about the wellbeing of his own soul. I was literally taught that if I wasn't married by the time the next life rolled around, I would be resurrected without my "manhood" and would be a celestial eunich forever

There are strange goings on in cults. While not being LDS, I grew up surrounded by them. They’re a very strange bunch. At about 13 to 15 many of the kids display severe confusion. I saw a few go bad. Really bad. Serious criminal behavior.

I had JUST gotten divorced, my ex had left me and took my kids and was trying EVERYTHING he could to make sure I never got them back. In the end, none of that worked, but while I was in between homes trying to figure out life alone, I was staying with a single friend and getting to know all of her friends, they (and i at the time) were all TBMs.
One night there was a conversation going on where the men and women were all discussing divorce and temple sealings, etc, etc, and the boys were all saying that they'd never be able to marry anyone who had been sealed previously because "they were taken" and "we'd miss out on the blessings".
I was distraught. I was homeless (again), losing my family, felt like a failure to the church, and now I was listening to how I was unfavorable with all the men I'd be trying to date because I had already been sealed...

When Jesus said in the Bible there is no marriage in heaven, this is what happens when a cult contradicts Him. You confused your cult members. I hope you find the Biblical Jesus and leave this cult.

"Sealings" are weird. My first wife never bothered cancelling, and I'm sealed to my current wife. I guess I'm an unwilling polygamist

What is "sealing?" Sounds like religious make believe to me. People really enjoy creating their own drama, difficulties and guilt.

It was bat shit crazy to listen to her talk through all the applications dealings and polygamy has for widowed and divorced people who want to move on.

The sealing is a form of control.
I just really looked into Mormonism.
I'm a spiritual person. Never went to church much. Catholic threads. Mormonism I see as totally man made.
It is derivative of substantial faiths and practices but it uses these archetypes to control.
It is derivative of hermeticism kabbalah and freemasonry. There's nothing inherently wrong with that.

The deceit, the grander, and the shame is what makes this faith not of what I know to be Good.

They claim the book of mormon is witness. They are not lying about that. It stands in direct dispute of the Bible. If the Bible and Jesus are the truth the book of mormon undoes it.

His attitude was perfectly logical. Assuming, of course, he felt endlessly self-entitled....

My goodness, dating is complicated enough without a whole nuther level of legalism and craziness.

Even having grown up Mormon it took me a few plays of this video to process what she was talking about

The whole phrasing of being sealed to your husband in this context is just so- weird

Love your episodes! Your experience is an important perspective for anyone considering church membership. The church does not care about it’s widows and single mothers. The Q15 cared that their polygamous wives were not sealed to anyone else; if they can’t overlook it, the same beliefs and culture will exist in the ward you attend.
