Pema Chödrön discusses how to transform one's relationship with pain through compassion and loving-kindness practices. She emphasizes the importance of confronting emotional discomfort, remaining present with suffering, and nurturing a compassionate heart. The session includes techniques to cultivate happiness and empathy for oneself and others, encouraging gradual progress in embracing pain instead of avoiding it.

With The Freedom to Love, Pema Chödrön invites you to start wherever you are—with any challenges, frustrations, or fears you may be facing—and use them as the launching pad to awaken the natural and boundless capacity of your heart.

Do you want to love and connect with others more deeply, but need a little help?

Struggling with Matters of the Heart? This Is the Place to Bring Them

Through six sessions of intensive learning and practice, this beloved and gifted teacher will guide you through traditional Buddhism’s traditional awakened heart training . . . with a difference.

Pema might have named this course “Working with the Hard Stuff”—because here she’ll be showing us how to use the principles of The Four Immeasurables in our most challenging situations, relationships, and emotional states.

I just wanted to share a little story about six degrees of separation. I've lived in Seattle since the early 90's.
I worked for a company and had to go do to New York on a regular basis. On one of these trips there was a woman who decided that she was entitled to take my seat and thought she could get me to just push over to her seat which was the middle seat!! Because she was ten years older than me. She thought that I would just sheepishly comply.
Needless to say this woman was in for a rude awakening. While her and I verbally sparred going back and forth as to why I could not give her my seat. Eventually the flight attendant got involved and asked would anyone be willing to give up their seat?
This very quiet but strong voice said I will!! I turned around to see her sitting there. Pema Chödrön who I'd taken a brief course on spirituality & prayer a few years earlier.
It was an interesting trip to New York she was on her way to meet with the Dalai Lama. We talked about why conflict happens. I realized that my stubbornness was actually attributed to another issue I had at the time with my mother.
In our time together I learned so much from her that day. After meeting the Dalai lama her plan was to set up a monastery in Minnesota.
So that my friends is how small the world is. ❤ Be kind 🙏

Pema, I just received an email from Sounds True selling your audio course, based on the teachings of the Buddha, for $400.
Your words of inspiration have helped so many people.
But Buddha was very clear on the subject of making money on the subject of liberation from suffering. How can there be any price for that?
I feel grateful to have found the teachings of the Buddha uncontaminated by money from S.N. Goenka who teaches Vipassana.
One can take a 10 day course with lodging, food and the teachings for free.
There is no theory….only practice and direct experience.

Pema, don’t allow corporations to exploit you or your precious gift to help so many people.

Blessings to you and stay happy and free.

Thank you, Pema. I'm starting to find some hope and purpose in your words and the words of other teachers like Tich Nhat Hanh. I'm 25 and suffering from schizophrenia. My day to day life feels like constant inescapable suffering and it's quite scary sometimes. I want to study and practice mindfulness and meditation sincerely and become better at it to try and improve my quality of life. You're wonderful and I'm looking forward to finding more of your works 💜

One thing that helps is to realize that I am the witness of the pain. The pain comes and goes but 'I' awareness am present through it all.

Nothing can be forced.
Unconditional presence is all that is required and nothing needs to change in order to Be.

Thank you dear Pema. I did not know that during metta meditation that it was OK to not choose someone who causes you trauma AKA "a real humdinger" when choosing someone who irritates you to direct loving kindness to. Wow that is such a relief! I am a victim of adult bullying (it's far worse than it sounds) and until I can afford to move I can't escape the harassment. I've tried all possible routes and it just gets worse. This person is pure evil and refuses to stop after being told the harm and suffering they're causing so the thought of sending them living kindness made me sick. I'm so relieved knowing that I do not have to do that. Namaste. 🙏💗
