We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.

'Marines can do the most with the least.' Is a phrase I became very accustomed to. Semper Fi.

The Marines with Air Force level budget would be insane

This could not have been better explained! There is consolation in hearing someone outside the Corp saying this.

We lived in condemned squad bays for 10 years before they decided to upgrade us to nicer condemned barracks.

Back in the 90s I worked with a ex-Airborne Ranger who served in Nam. He told me basically the same thing. He watched a unit of Marines assault a hill over and over taking massive loses each time. Tactics never changed, weapons never changed, just full frontal assault over and over

My Dad, who was a Marine in Korea in the 50’s, used to tell me how the Marines always worked with everyone’s castoff and leftover equipment. They never had the new rifles, the cutting edge tech, etc—they had what the new stuff replaces for others. And in spite of that they remain the ass kicking fighting force they are—a testament to the training they receive and the types of individuals who man the Corps.

Dude we didn’t have anything when we first went into Fallujah. Green fatigues weapons from Vietnam guns packed in grease using dump trucks no armor on vehicles used an mre box for an ammo can once it was wild. I can’t even say how bad it truly was with the medical we had. It was truly unbelievable
