Another guy from this unit said it best ..”you go thru SEAL selection/training as mainly a group… you go thru Delta selection/training mainly by yourself…”

From listening to 100s of operatives and ground forces, it just seems like almost unanimously Delta is a much more respected force with less fuckups.

This is actually the most gentle response from a Delta talking about ST6 haha. Most other Unit vets are less complimentary of their Navy peers

I was around some SAS guys and they were huge compared to our Green Berets, but the GBs were carrying the same packs and were very athletic!

Met a legit delta guy and he was so unassuming. Funny I was talking to a trained killer and he was friendly and humble. But the real deal.
You just never know

I have had a chance to work with both units on joint ops. Both are unique in there own way but who was more well rounded from what I saw was Cag. They were just laser focused and fast as hell and watching these guys work, it was like they saw what was happening before things were actually happening. Just my opinion from my time on the ground.

This delta guy is 5’7 ? That’s inspiring bro. I heard only tall guys pass SFAS due to crazy weight on ruck marches but if he got in and he’s short too it’s really inspiring

As a U.S. civilian who never served, right around tax time I pretend all my tax money is going to Delta and the Seals. I consider it money well spent.

Dude this is the most accurate representation of both units, ST6 is a direct maritime action force. If you want someone killed you send them and they’ll do it the best on land or in water. But if you want someone saved, you send delta they would do best in that. The difference in the 2 is the TYPE of training, seals are big because they swim ALOT. Delta is skinny cuz they can out-ruck ANYONE.

A very humble response. I don't think anyone beats Delta.

The thing is, they all have the same type of guy. But Delta is the only unit that is completely self sufficient. Lastly, delta will pull from anywhere. Even the band, or navy or Marine or National Guard. They only care if you can make it. In the book All Secure, Tom Satterly talks about the guy from the Army band making it all the way to the end.

How do you know someone’s a navy seal. Don’t worry, they’ll tell you.

John schrek McPhee on one of this dudes older podcasts...

The unit needs nothing. The unit is a completely standalone counterterrorist organization.

Seal team 6 has to rely on augmentees and support personnel from JSOC.

Think about it for a second The Navy doesn't even have Humvees.

I served in the Army and was stationed at Fort Drum, 10th Mountain Division, in the mid 90s. Delta was there a lot. They were distinct looking and their eyes were different, cold and sharp. Often they would fly over with six of them hanging on to a ladder under a helicopter doing at least 100 mph, among other things. Insane, and their conditioning was elite level. My belief is that the difference is honor. You would never have had a Delta member profit off of the killing of Osama. NO WAY any of them would have talked about it. Man they would run by our units during PT in full ruck holding huge sniper rifles running at twice our pace, in combat boots. In perfect unison, eyes forward. HARD ASSES. And they were all white guys.

Why has no one interview Kevin Holland the only known person who has served on both units and has over 2000 combat missions throughout his career.

Some....most, of these unit dudes we'd worked with were scary. Not in any overt way at all. Never had a problem, almost overly calm older mature dudes. And since most came from SF they were great teachers and made friends easy and always had time to train others. But they absolutely did not play when it was time to go to work. That line of "I know some of our guys that killed more people than malaria" is right along the lines of a quote that paul howe has said from the blackhawk down fight. "There's a new sheriff in town, and they need to know if they mess with us we will kill them wholesale"
Theres tough talk, then there's talk from guys that could back it up easily.

I'm grateful to have both of these assets in our military arsenal. To me it seems like Delta selects "average" looking dudes that blend into the crowd better and therefore draw less attention to themselves. Whereas, SEALS seem to be more direct action units these days that go after high profile targets. I will say that it also seems like becoming a SEAL these days comes with a book deal and gear endorsements. If you want to take down a hostage situation on a boat call the SEALS. IF you want to take down a hostage situation in a building or on a plane call Delta.

DEVGRU is the modern day moniker for "SEAL Team 6". That change took effect years ago.
