Gallant is a very good book and creepy! Reminds me of Coraline where there is two different dimensions of the house “the good side & bad”.

Come The Dark Night by David Tregarthen is a dark academia book that keeps you reading and dives deeply into the social mores of Oxford, the British school city, and such things as misogynist sexism in society and bigotry against the LGBTQ+ community. Layered, well-written, and intelligent.

The Secret History by Donna Tartt is one of my favorites but it's also literary so many readers may find it a bit stiff or off-putting.

The Rule of Four by Caldwell and Thomason is another early, and generally forgotten, dark academia book about four college students hot on the trail of a rare volume that may solve a dire mystery and lead them to ... something. Great fun to read.

This Thing Between Us was really fantastic. Idk if I would call it cosmic horror, but if you mean kind of Lovecraftian then I would definitely say no, it's not. Definitely worth a read!

I really really loved the book of accidents so I guess I’m on the unpopular opinion. It turns into something much deeper than what’s on the dust jacket though and gets really weird. So that’s probably why people don’t love it. A lot of my friends did seem to though.

What a great video! I bought The Whispering House and Reprieve for the same reasons as you and still haven't read them yet! I actually enjoyed Gallant and Don't Tell a Soul (although there is one aspect of the latter that isn't my favorite but it's a spoiler). I am glad that I hadn't bought Devil House until after the reviews came in 😉. The Last Beautiful Girl is on my shelves and I am still interested in reading it, just haven't gotten to it yet. I almost bought The Secret History a couple of times but I also don't think it will be for me. You should keep those four books and do a reading vlog! 😉😂

I actually really liked Dont Tell A Soul, it’s pretty forgettable haha but it was a quick, fun read so I think you might enjoy it !

I loved this video! Please do more of these, try a chapter. I DNF the Book of Accidents so I would Un haul it for sure. I got Reprieve on my shelf also but haven’t reached for it. I had a feeling that you would reconsider Reprieve and Gallant. I read Gallant and it was just ok. Nothing special but not the worst book I've ever read. I would pass on it, personally. I did not enjoy This Thing Between Us at all. I have added the last two YA books to my TBR.

I would dump Reprieve. I read that whole book thinking it would have some great ending since there was a lot of lag throughout, but nope! What a disappointment 😞

I was recommended The Secret History by a friend from school. Or should I say "friend", because I hate her now (just kidding - I still like her :) ). But that book! I was bored to tears by page 10, but for some reason I kept torturing myself for a bit longer. It was so boring. So pretentious. Just so bad, like the author was trying her best to be deep and profound but it just failed miserably. But, many people seem to love it, so I'm happy they got to have a good experience.
The Book of Accidents was a 2-star for me. I honestly can't remember one thing about it...
The Last Beautiful Girl was a 1-star read, I remember thinking it was okay at first, but then it just went downhill. I don't even know why I finished it, maybe I was just anger-reading... :)
