I never expected to love the 'And I Darken' books but it's one of my favorite series of all time now! 🥰 It felt more adult than YA to me. I hope you'll like it too! :)

I completely agree with your writing style critiques in this video! The Magician is the one I’m most curious about of all of these. I DNF’d The Lightbringer series after The Black Prism. There is a very strong male gaze and a character who constantly fat-shames himself, but the writing style and something that I can’t talk about because of spoilers were main reasons I didn’t continue. Loved this video and look forward to your thoughts on whichever ones you read!

I haven't read any of these, so I can't help with them individually! I used Marie Kondo's book to unhaul books at the end of last year and got rid of about 100 from my tbr - that worked for me!
I'd really like to see a vlog of you reading the two you definitely want to keep.

I was so anxious about you having And I Darken in the pile and "unhaul" being in the title but phew - it's one of the few trilogies that imo really sticks the landing

Hmmm, interesting. As far as Lightbringer goes, I think you will love and hate it lol. There are def some strange dialogue choices, however, I think you'll like the magic. And the politics is more noticeable in chapter 2. I think that is the chapter you should read if you want to see how you will feel about the series. If the dialogue annoys you too much to enjoy the politics, than it may be a lost cause.

I think Black Prism was in Stephanie Bookverse's recent series she wants to start. Maybe a buddy read to give it a try? It's been a series lurking on my radar for a while but I have yet to actually pick it up.

Maybe I should try that. My physical TBR is huge because there was a time I used to read only literary fiction. But now I read primarily fantasy. But what if the litfic mood comes back? 😄

I thought And I Darken was meh, I said in my videos that it was the "okay-est" book I've ever read. Lightbringer remains one of my favorite series but I do wonder if you will like it. I think it will be one that there will be some things you love and some things you hate.

I haven't read Magician but I read Daughter of the empire, Raymond E Feist's writing style is surprisingly good and modern.

I’m a stubborn reader and almost always finish a book if I’ve started it, but I DNF’d Black Prism. I loathed the characters and the male gaze alone was enough to make me not want to bother continuing. It’s been several years and no regrets here.

I really need to start doing this as well, because I don't like to DNF and this could actually help me decide if the book is for me. Anyway, really enjoyed the video, glad you were able to eliminate some from your TBR.
Also, I read all 5 Lightbringer books and while I enjoy that series, I don't think it's worth it if you are feeling 'meh' about it. I personally didn't mind the ending, but I know that a lot of people felt like it was an extreme case of deus ex machina and were extremely disappointed. Kip's inner fatphobia and the male gaze throughout the series is also annoying, but it didn't hinder my enjoyment too much in the end. There are actually some female characters that I love in there (in the later books), so there's that. Hope that helps a bit and you can make a decision that feels good for you ;)
