How To Install the Kwikset SmartCode 916 Smart Lock

Kwikset has been around since 1946 and has a patent on SmartKey Security deadbolts which allows users to easily rekey their own locks. They recommend that homeowner change out the locks anytime a property changes ownership or a key has gone missing and is not accounted for. You may never know when someone that has been given access to the property has made a copy of the key or shared the code. In addition to their standard door locks and smartcode electronic locks they offer locks that connect via Z-Wave, Zigbee or Bluetooth.

The 916 series connects with Amazon Alexa via Samsung SmartThings or similar smart home hub allowing the system to check the status, lock and unlock door, and receive notifications. The Premis line works the same way for homeowners who use Apple Homekit and also can be unlocked with the app via Bluetooth. Kwikset’s newest smart lock, the Kevo features Touch-to-Open and can integrate with other smart home devices such as your video doorbell with the addon Kevo Plus. Now you can make any lock a smart lock with Kevo Convert, it uses your existing hardware on the exterior of door and easily replaces the interior hardware in just minutes.

Our total install time for the Kwikset Smartcode 916 including connecting it to my SmartThings hub was around 7 minutes.

Hello, I forgot the master code, the orientation of the lock is restored, but the codes are not deleted, what can I do?

Code to unlock, how many digits max we can have? 6 dig or 8 digits codes

I have the kwikset 99420 the kwikset app won't let me see who unlocked and locked my door from my work and it won't let me lock my door from my work if my kids forget to lock the door. It keeps saying lock is offline. We can control the lock fine from the app only when we are at home. That doesn't make any sense. You should be able to control it wherever you are and see the lock logs too

this thing seems cool but i would not trust it as my only deadbolt with a door knob below that is not keyed, i would still put a keyed doorknob below for extra security, at which point i find this thing pointless, i got two keyed schlage deadbolts rather than one deadbolt on top and a door knob on bottom, yeah when a burglar sees that kind of setup, he ain’t gonna wanna kick that in
