I can't help but see how much everything is linked to our mental health, will power is a scary thing that influence every aspect in our life.

Be REALLY carefull with this! When you obsess too much about your looks you can easily spiral down into metal health issues. I made that mistake of being obsessed with wanting to look attractive and developped an eating disorder and depression, so try to find a balance between working on yourself and keeping you sane while doing it. Take care

People whose weight is the only thing keeping them from being attractive have no idea how lucky they are; some of us would need a whole ass face transplant.

This doesn’t just apply to face, but self improvement in general

One thing you neglected to mention is incentive. All the people who maintain discipline and looks are quite literally getting paid for it. Vague ideas of maybe getting lucky down the line are not sufficient to maintain perpetual motivation because eventually the tank goes empty. This is true of just about every human being. If there is ultimately no reward then or an unpredictable reward at best, then motivation falters and fails. Vague ideals do little to help with this.

I'm currently loving these short, aesthetically edited, and impactful videos! A quick takeaway- Willpower = sustainability. It is supposed to be the foundation that complements the other self-improvement efforts.

Very true but a lot of it comes down to facial bone structure, I’m on a competitive sports team and everyone on the team has around 8% body fat, trains year round, and eats incredibly healthy (chicken, vegetables, rice) and the variance in attractiveness ranges from like a 3 to a 9 out of 10 and that’s due to facial bone structure, height and body type which of what I can see are all genetic factors.

We cannot pretend that some people aren't just plain ugly, toxic positivity is also a problem. It's way more beneficial to everyone to approach problems with a high dose of reality rather than just "the only reason you're ugly is not enough willpower".

When talking about discipline another important thing to keep in mind is a lot of people aren't lazy but rather have the opposite problem of overworking themselves in every area of their life. Stress influences our appearance in a negative way over time so meditation, mindfulness, cuddles, being in nature and other stress relieving activities are also so important to mention. But yes it really is worth it to take care of yourself and feel good about your appearance.

will power is like a muscle though, don’t try and make big leaping changes, or you’ll quickly overwork your muscle. instead make small incremental changes until eventually you look back and your ‘muscle’ is strong enough to hold up all your life desires.

A lot of these examples do end up requiring money, though. The lower class can't afford fillers, skincare products, or affordable dieting. Sure they can change their posture and adjust their sleep patterns, but they can't afford the bigger game changers. At least not in the USA, I'm unsure of other countries.

Corn and soy are subsidized to hell and back. You can say getting X ingredients and cooking will give the same cost as quick meal and be healthier, but it requires time to do, a luxury many poor people do not have. And even if you scour through all these "cheats" and dieting secrets for cost effectiveness, the reality is you will still get more food for less money and less time by buying processed foods. Corn sugar is in everything with added sugar unless it says otherwise, soy is in every cheap high protein product.

Class disparity is still a pretty significant issue for beauty, as it always has been throughout history. It hasn't changed.

feeling inadequate compared to a supermodel isn't a "victim mentality"-it's because you're a human. no amount of will power will make you satisfied if you're comparing your lifestyle to someone like kim kardashian, who's incredibly wealthy and is detached from our reality as average people. diet culture is so engraved in us and the rise of social media makes it hard to feel attractive when people are fad dieting and using filters. i ultimately don't like the message this video sets out because if you're struggling with body image you aren't at fault. body dysmorphia is deeply rooted in feeling inadequacy: one that no diet will fix

I'm an extremely lazy person and I've dealt with depression since I was 11. I couldnt even get myself to shower. Now I have a whole routine, which I am very happy with myself for. It really helps to take it just one step at a time, no matter how small. Even the tiniest thing. The momentum with bring you to great places with time.

I just finished this video and this is something I completely would not think of from this channel.

I watch lots of self improvement channels which they cover this sort of content, but most of your videos cover a somewhat scientific approach to discover and/or measure and/or understand beauty.

It's a nice addition, thanks for reminding me to stay on track.

Lack of self control and self-victimisation is also very unattractive. I've tried dating guys like that (who look good cuz they have a physical job or have somebody else tell them what to do) and when I notice they're not in control of their life, I start seeing them as children rather than men. Same goes for folks who put their looks above everything else. If you can't balance self control, your goals, and empathy for others, then you got some figuring out to do.

For those people who say "Looks doesn't matter"
Then why most of the people care about their own looks?

One thing I personally wonder, is how to know when you achieved discipline, I personally think I am doing very well in life, honestly, I have a great career for my age, i work out 6 days a week, both gym and kickboxing, I wear sunscreen for my skin, my only persistent bad habbits are watching youtube on my second monitor while working, but i still feel like it's not nearly enough, I feel bad and guilty every time i open a video game or relax in any way. i feel like we are not built for the modern world. it's toxic to our brains.

while this can work to an EXTENT, i kinda disagree with the video. to say that we are ugly because we have a victim mentality, and because we dont have willpower is just not true. you can lose weight, sleep right, eat healthy, put makeup on and have a cool style but your face can still be deemed as "ugly".
celebrities arent pretty because they have will power; its bc they have money, photoshop, professional makeup artists, personal trainers, plastic surgery and genetics play a part. not to forget, people are born naturally "prettier" or naturally "uglier". i dont like the victim blaming acting as if your ugly because of your own faults.

yes we can all makes small differences in our appearance by putting in the work but that's not the end of the story. if we want to feel beautiful its more of a psychological shift if anything, you have to think you're beautiful.

idk, but as a person with body dysmorphia i found this video a little bit damaging. telling people that they are not attractive because they dont work hard enough is a little off. its like saying youre not rich because you dont work hard enough even though WE KNOW that rich people are rich because they had help with money and by exploiting people.

ALSO the beauty standard is unrealistic and could not be achieved by most people, what even is beauty anyway? its better to just look however you wanna look, dont care about standards. its okay to be "ugly"!!!! <333

Forcing myself to follow a specific routine trained my willpower, and believe it or not my appearance and how I carry myself changed were indirectly affected.
My mom used to make me do things without me really understanding what the goal is eg immediately putting things away. I used to not do them because I believed in starting with the end in mind, but over time I realized it's a bottom up approach.

You sometimes don't have to question things, sometimes it's not about delivering the ultimate best quality result.
Sometimes it's about consistent quantity.

aka discipline.
