I got my asymmetry because of this. This man knows what he says.

Quality content, focused on improving standards in the industry and saving future patients from regrettable outcomes. A+ 👏

As a 57 year old Lipkin patient, these videos continue to reinforce that I chose the right orthodontist. Thank God.

OMG, this is it! The video I was waiting for. Finally, Dr. Lipkin was allowed to explain how to ensure symmetrical expansion.
😎💡🙏🏾

Dr. Lipkin always looks so happy, like he has a spark in his eye.

So the appliance should be made parallel to the bite plane rather than parallel to the roof of the pallet. Does this mean the TADS might need to be longer on the side of the appliance with more of a gap between the mucosa and the framework to achieve bicortical engagement?

Interesting. So then is it wise to counter balance on already asynetric faces or where one side is otherwise different? I see so many asymetries made worse. So if you intentionally go at an angle that fights against an asymetry does that prevent them, and even fix existing ones? I imagine its not so simple otherwise we would have seen it happen on someone by pure chance from a bad installation that was "bad" and crooked in a way that was helpful.
Its my big concern since i am already asymetric in the face. Not sure if its having a bite impact. Ill ask my dentist.

Glad I didn't expand too much because of your videos. My screws were put in haphazardly. One broke off and didn't go into the bone on one side. I should've pressed more to have it redone but I was convinced by my Dr that it wouldn't be an issue. The asymmetry isn't terrible, but there's a noticable cant even with my lips closed.

Dr Lipkin is checking to make sure main screw is parallel to occlusal plane…what if occlusal plane is off? Ie canted?
Shouldn’t a better way to evaluate appliance position (to avoid asymmetric expansion) be to make sure it’s parallel to THE PALATE… not the occlusal plane??
After all, the palate represents the point of SKELETAL EXPANSION better than the dentition (the occlusal plane)
Unless, there is something I don’t know…maybe there is a direct correlation between “occlusal plane” and “palatal plane”, and they are parallel. If so, then comparing the main Jackscrew against the occlusal plane would make comparison easier, and thus determining correct appliance placement easier.
PS: I’m not criticizing, I’m just trying to see things as clear as possible, and learn from the great minds leading the way!

Actually an interesting thing here as well, is that like if you have something like the KLS Martin, if the palate is lopsided and not synced with the bite plane, you can't really like, install it at a different angle. With this design you have the cylinder and then you have TAD attachments that branch off of it. So you can have the cylinder at a different angle than the TADs. With the KLS, not so.

I'm not an expert, but this seems too simplistic. If we go with this theory, if a parallel screw avoids asymmetries, then further tilting the screw on the other side should fix an asymmetry? Has this been ever tried? This would confirm the theory.

An MSE or any other expander has to win different resistance points. The resistance come from the bones of the whole skull, that eventually connect to the maxilla through sutures. If the skull is asymmetrical (because of a cranial distortion for example) then the forces at play are asymmetrical, thus no matter how you position the expander (which is roughly a parallel force to the palatal process) it will always expand more on the least resistant side.

A deviated septum is naturally unsymmetrical.. installing an MSE appliance that counters the asymmetry by not being straight seems to be ideal.
In other words wouldn’t every case demand some kind of customization?

Split the maxilla! I think your channel made that clear. Thank you Ron!

Here’s hoping my MSE is accidentally slanted to fix my canted maxilla.

I would love to know which doctors have taken Dr. Lipkin's classes. Does he have a list?

No consideration for cases of occlusal cant huh.

could you ask dr. lipkin what's the name of the expander device shown in this video?

I had difficulty in breathing from as far as I remember. At the time of lockdown ( I was 15 ) searched 'how to get rid of nose hump' found a video where that person was talking about mewing. I Researched a lot and started mewing. Done it for 1 month and then stopped (I can't remember the reason). We have a sweets shop. When some restrictions were removed. I started to feel that people are stalking me. I thought i am very ugly maybe thats the reason, but some girls started to behave weirdly in front off me. My family members also started to say things like you hit puberty or became handsome. I became confident, I was like the starboy of school or area. I got used to this type of model like lifestyle. Things went smoothly. I but in mid 2021 I dont know what got into me I again started mewing because I had a little bit of unsymmetrical face . I did very hard mewing. It resulted in uplifting my palate very very very high in the mouth. It destroyed my face, my voice, and my breathing. I started having difficulty in breathing . My face changed completely. And my voice also. In simple words I became ugly. My face changed so drastically that people who knew me can't undrestand what happened. I lost my whole confidence. Even know I can't talk to anyone looking them in the eyes. Now most of the time I stay at home but whenever I go out, it's like a nightmare. If I see some girl in the market who had crush on me, I feel ( i cant explain). Going school is also very difficult. I am suffering from a mental breakdown I was so into that beautiful people stuff. But I can't forget the mistake I made. Every now and then, some consequences happen that make me sad and regret the mistake I made. Yes today is also that day. I wanna move on but I can't😭😭😭😢. Maybe after reading someone will say, why regreting on such small thing. But it isn't small for me, It literally changed my whole life from my health to how people react to me

where do the gaps go after the mse expander has done its job ?
