It was the 60's, and Janis was a force of nature!

Full blown Era of the Hippies in San Fran ! Tho the times were trending to Psychadelic Rock, it would be hard to Not call Janis's anything but Blues. So. Much. Soul. We loved her then, and miss the heck out of her, now. A musical meteor.

Janis was a lover of an old style of singing called Blues Shouter... Simply the best; gone much, much too soon...

Some of Janis' biggest hits were when she was with Big Brother and the Holding Company, and off this album. Janis was blues, soul, rock, folk, jazz, all wrapped up into one beautiful lady, and no one else could/can compare to her. Her favorite to drink was Southern Comfort which helped her bring out the raw emotion and power which set her apart.

I would have loved to hear her sing some southern gospel. The way that woman could sing reminds me of being down south in the summertime and being in one of the large tents listening to the church choir singing like there is no tomorrow.

Janis is Soul....Most of her songs are from the 60's. I saw her live in Calgary, Alberta, 1970, see passed away a few months later and she joined the 27 club, a group of other greats died at age 27 such as Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, + others. Please react to Cry Baby by

I met and spoke brief;y with Janis outside a convenience store south of Big Sur in the summer of 1969 (I was 19). She ran her Porsche off the road and was there to use the phone. She told us she needed to get to SF where her band was waiting to reherse. My one regret is I never saw her perform live.

Erma Franklin, elder sister of Aretha Franklin, earned a Grammy nomination in 1967 for her version of "Piece of My Heart". But Janis Joplin's cover, released in 1968, became the more popular and more well remembered version. Heavy psychedelic blues! Erma Franklin's version is nice and funky. Check it out too.

I love that J.J. has men singing background vocals. Not something you heard much back then.

Janis was really good imo, she did lots of wild songs, she was a great Rock 'n' Soul singer; you my like a cover from an english band as tribute to Janis, called: Slade - Move Over 1972 (Live). It's a savage cover sang with wrath, i love it!.
