Here's a tip. Save before you start your chain. Make sure autosave is off and if your chain breaks due to the 7% or you accidentally break it just close the game and re-open it BOOM you won't have lost out on any quick balls, timer/repeat balls or repels

Also a good tip, when you hit a 40 streak just keep resetting your Pokerader until you see a shiny patch of grass. It consumes repels but takes away the risk of losing your chain 🤙🏿

Important to note : 4 patches away means 4 patches in any single direction, meaning a patch that is 2 spaces to the right and 2 spaces up does not count.

Even crazier, that 1/99 shiny chance at a chain of 40 is just for one of the four grass patches. That means it's actually more of a 1/25 chance altogether.

Pokeradar was one of the toughest but rewarding method in XY. I was always in full focus mode for that. Catching that Drifloon on that one cliffside route with the zoomed out camera and rain or even the shiny Liepard on a very thin grass patch near that ruined hotel were probably two of the most nerve wrecking shinies I managed to catch.

So I assume, once you get to a 40 chain, you do not need to carry on catching, you just keep resetting the radar until you get the shiny patch?

I’m convinced these 93% odds are false or something is happening, I’ve continually get 20-32 chains and would end, out of 100 runs 7 will fail but my chain always breaks. After 14 hours worth of hunting I’ve still yet to make it to a 40 chain.

Started to lose hope with this after multiple chains breaking, thinking it was my fault (some could have been). So, I watched this while I was chaining moments ago and am happy to say I got a shiny female Nidoran on my 44th chain ! Thank you again for the informative video. Time to find more !

FINALLY they make the grass patches shake all the time!! In previous pokeradars was so frustrating losing the chain because you got distracted for just a moment!!

Thanks for the help Adrive! My first four attempts at starting a chain failed, but once I got it going I got a shiny starly at a chain of 25. Now, I just got my shiny sentret at a chain of 38, I just kept resetting the patches as I didn't want to risk it :)

Found an alternative for those who have trouble getting to 40 like me. Get a chain to 20 and just start resetting from there. I got my Girafarig, Ponyta, and just now Glameow from doing this. It might take a few hours of resetting the radar but it was much quicker for me than trying to reach the 40 chain

i’ve done everything he said, for about 7 hours now, and haven’t had a chain higher than 12. that 7% chance of breaking feels more like 70%

It's incredible how its 7% chance to broke the chain and it happens EVERYTIME. Broke my 31 chain, 22 chain, 18 chain, 1 chain. Just can't.

This works so well, I caught a shiny Shinx within 30 min. Only thing I did differently was have the repel on constantly. Seemed to work!

All I am for used on right now is managing to get a shiny female Riolu. That was the first shiny I got in the original games.

I really enjoyed doing this in the first iterations of these games. I was kind of hoping they would have expanded on it in this game, with either more large packs of grass, or the ability to somehow use it in caves/ water. Because realistically, there is really only a finite number of pokemon you can actually chain for a shiny in this game, just like the old ones.
