This is somewhat of a silly metaphor, but a good one, to understand that when life is sated, the toxicity begins to shed away. As well as dealing with people even if they are nuts, when you saturate them with a sense of purpose and/or what they desire of life, that they may lose such toxic traits of their own and become tolerable. That, and making your enemy feel safe so you can eat them all up proverbially.
