New menu offerings will always come and go, but one thing that is more or less a permanent fixture on the Burger King menu in the chain's signature burger, The Whopper. First introduced all the way back in 1957, The Whopper was the result of a redesign of how the fast food company cooked burgers. It's been a fan favorite menu item ever since.

Burger King co-founder Jim McLamore explained pretty simply that the name "The Whopper" was chosen to indicate that it was big, and that ended up being true in numerous ways. What explains its enduring popularity and staying power? Here's what makes Burger King's Whoppers so delicious.

I wish that the whoppers I get at Burger King looked as good as the ones in this video

I enjoy BK from time to time. It always has that signature taste with crispy toppings. Not bad for fast food.

Never had a problem with Burger King Whoppers. They truly are magical burgers.

"Each patty is HELD in an electric unit" In the old days when the meat came out of the chain broiler they placed on a bun with all the fixins. I wondered why the burgers always taste "steamed" now and its almost impossible to get a good burger at most Burger Kings any longer.

Here's why a whopper is made the way it is: The mayonnaise is put on the top of the bun, to hold some of the lettuce. Then tomatoes on top of the lettuce, which holds the rest of the lettuce. On the bottom of the bun, 4 pickles are put on top of the meat, to bring out the flavor and salts of the meat. Then ketchup is added and then the onions. The ketchup holds the onions on. We learned that in management training.

My parents always gave us money to get whoppers back in the day for $1 each. Whenever she didn't want to cook, she used to ask us if we wanted Burger King. $10 = 10 Whoppers. Still to this day, it's my favorite. I just had a Whopper meal today for lunch.

Did you notice it said ( free of flavor )?
The Whooper has gone down hill in size over the years. Now it’s like a bread sandwich.

Burger King has gone down hill since I last ate there in the 80s. I remember you could smell and see the smoke coming out of the restaurant; smelled great! You could see the burgers going down the conveyor belt being grilled too!❤️ Ate there a couple months ago and burger was cold 👎🏼

I have been waiting almost 40 years for Burger King to bring back their original fish sandwich, The Whaler. It was a marvelous meal experience.

Dairy queen used to have flame grilled burgers. I saw them microwaving my cheeseburger. They said they do that to melt the cheese. When a burger is microwaved the flavor is terrible.

Too bad, my Whopper never looks that fresh, when I visit BK.

I had my first burger King whopper and fries last week in decades. Since diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, these are pretty much off my menu. No junk fook. I ate that meal with moans and groans of sheer bliss. The fries? Beat any I ever ate.

In the late 60's or early 70's I we lived a short walk to a burger king. My go to was a double whopper with cheese. I remember it as much bigger than what my granddaughter brought here the other afternoon.

I remember in the 1950s - 1960s when the burgers fell of the grill into a sauce of what seemed to be ketchup and finely ground pickles and was very sweet. You could smell the burgers cooking when you walked in 5he door!

I used to work for them when I was younger. The Jr. was my before I got on the clock snack. & I'd take a Triple Whopper home, but "I did it my way"

Of all the fast-food burger chains, Burger King's Whopper is and has always been my go-to quick food. If I'm not mistaken, they are the only one using an open flame to cook the meat. Everyone else is using a steel grill. At home, what do we use? Either gas or brickett, but either way, this is my favorite. Just watching this makes me want to head out at almost midnight to find one that is still open

Hadn't been to a BK in years. Recently stopped into one in mayfield heights OH and was starving. Ordered a double whopper w/ cheese and was absolutely shocked at how delicious it was. I was like "has the whopper always been this good?" Bow that i know they recently improved the quality it all makes sense.

I usually get a whopper leaving the local casino because they accept casino points. But it was closed last time probably because of lack of workers.
