I used unity till they betrayed me and every other dev in the name of profit. They knew what they were doing and planned it for a year. They sold their stock before they did it.

Forget what she says, don't panic about making a huge mistake and spending months analysing engines, just grab any engine and start making games. Once you have a bit of experience you'll understand what you need and then you can pick the engine that's right for your project.

The thing I love about Unreal is how easy it is to debug everything and how many core features for 3D games are built into the software. No matter what tutorial I followed or how I programmed it, for some reason I just couldn't make a raycast in Unity. I tried everything, and I know there's probably a way, but I just couldn't figure out what was wrong. With unreal I could make a working raycast in minutes.

Been using unity since 2014 and shipped multiple games with it. However, finding out about the new licensing terms that doesn't only count organization revenue but downloads count as well has left a bad taste in my mouth. This reason has made me think twice before making non-profit games in the future.
