I'd rather have the miter in the corner than a straight seam on the flat piece. It's interesting regardless.

Doing this just to have a seam 6 inches from from the miter is kinda hilarious.

Yes but i would make it longer so the seams are different on either side

I was waiting for that cut off piece to take off when it hit the spinning blade 😂

I see the corner cracking with significant temperature changes in New England. The wood underneath will contract and shrink so much that that thin plastic will crack.

It made the uneven corner stand out more

I absolutely love the straight seam and how clean it looks!

What i prefer to do:
Cut the less visible piece with a 5° inner angle, if its cold you let 3/16 of play, if its hot you make it tight.
Then i cut the visible piece straight and proud from the side piece.
Its easy, looks good and will move with temperature swing. Where i live we have 80°c of difference between season, its impossible to make it tight all the time, it will either open in winter, or worse, pop in summer.

I use a piece of the decking and do the same thing but rabbet out the outside edge and rub my fascia behind the rabbet do that it has a hidden place to expand and contract instead of at butt joints

Love the comments knocking adding a joint. Any tradesman worth their salt will know how to hide a running seam, but avoiding a corner miter? Love to see it! Keep up the amazing work!

Love the idea but Ill do you one better. A trick from the cabinet shop i worked at for a few years. We used the same concepts with solid surface but would put a peice of heavy duty tape on the back. Cut the counter top through to the tape leaving the tape together.
Heres the tip:
Buy a V-Groove Router bit. (Diablo makes a good one, sold at that orange box store)
Make a straight edge jig for your router.
Set your depth and cut
Eith this you could easily put the corner on any part of a board. 😉

I found wood banisters at Home Depot one time, I 45’ed the corners and set them in place. Looked nice, like it was a post holding up the entire deck. Especially after I burned em with a torch and added a dark red transparent sealer on em. So had nice contrast to the rest of the deck. This is also good.

That’s a great looking corner. Nice job.

Sweet work! The guy who installed my trex deck did a terrible job. No plugs and screws weren't even sunk in all the way.

It looks good, but there’s a seem, (what you’re trying to avoid) 6” from this corner. If you know your angles, a miter cut in this corner will look just as good, but without having a seem that close to the end of a run.

Might want to consider a miter cut on the butt ends, cut before you bend the corner, as well, to lap the joint the ends to minimize gapping of the facia. Just a thought...

You could also garbage pick carpet remnants to trim your framing seems. You could use hot glue and a brad gun to get it to stick real good.
