Narcissists always loose in the end because they never really experience love or happiness. Unfortunately defeating or escaping a narcissist always brings with it collateral damage. The loss of family relationships of the closest kind or financial destruction that may not be recoverable come to mind. Freedom isn't free. Best to choose wisely when your young and not get into a bad situation to begin with. ( Advice to a much younger me)

I remember a story about this husband and wife who were both attorneys in Orange County, California who framed this teacher because she had said their son was “a little slow, ” meaning he didn’t come to the curb right away to be picked up. Just over this _one_ innocent comment, these two ATTORNEYS put this teacher through HELL, planting drugs in her car and getting her arrested by the police. They had EVERYTHING and threw it all away over this comment. Only now that I’ve had direct contact with a malignant narcissist, do I finally understand this level of INSANITY.

Several months ago, a relative intervened with my grandfather to steal a portion of the inheritance she left for her grandchildren. It was done in a sly, uneventful manner where one would miss it if they weren't paying attention. I witnessed the conversation where this relative brokered the deal to steal money from the rest of us. A few days after my grandmother's funeral service, this relative called me to reiterate the deal she struck with my grandfather. She called me irate two days after this to try to have me cover her tracks after doing this. Two days after that, after she told other relatives that she didn't actually work to steal the money, denying that the conversation ever happened, she sent two long text messages confirming that she did arrange to steal the funds. Rather than responding to her, I have the messages on my phone and took a screenshot of them. Several relatives besides myself have also had enough of her, so they began distancing themselves one by one. Now, she is working through other family members to prod me to renew the relationship.

They will cut their nose to spite their face. It's TRUE. My ex narc just shut his nascent law office and left the country leaving huge debts in his wake, ostensibly because I had become a believer and left the RC church. But as I later learnt, he had lost his pathological narcissistic space owing to his bludgeoning of the same church over a sexual molestation by a priest. He has rejected by the largely catholic community and responded by sabotaging his own career. 20 yrs later, his legal practice was again in the doldrums and he chose to leave the country again with new supply, a former divorce client. This time, I won't take him back, hoover or not. But I'm left to deal with the messy business of the divorce.
