It's a fairly common question, right up there with questions regarding worshiping Mary...so what is the deal with Catholics and statues and how should we respond to that accusation? Make sure to SUBSCRIBE to never miss an episode on commonly asked questions about the Catholic faith.

First, Catholics don't worship statues. Now that we have established that, how can we explain this to others?

Religious imagery raises our mind to that which is portrayed. Canonized saints are raised up as an example in the Church for lives lived radically for Christ. Their images invite us to reflect on their lives in service to Christ and ultimately deeper our relationship to Christ.

Fr. George gives some great examples on how to break this down using non-religious explanations too!

God says not to introduce these things when worshiping, The Lord is the ONLY ONE who is to be honored. The Holy Spirit is the one who gives the love for the word not statues or images.
