Mario. People in the military use weight vests to jog. Theres a body builder that jogs 5+ miles while wearing a 90% vest. How you train depends on what you're training for. For combat and military, adding muscles mass along with utilizing technique for moves is actually a helpful attribute.

Weightlifting is a must for jiu-jitsu. Building muscle helps protect your ligaments and joints. That plus building strength helps assist against opponents that are equally technically skilled as you.

Here is some fact for anyone.
1. You don't have to sacrifice your "Muscle&Power" just for "Speed"
2. You don't have to sacrifice your "Speed" for "Muscle&Power"

Just no. You can't.
You can make all the good things stayed together. That is the true definition of "strong"
If you want speed&agility. You just need to learn those skills and spam it. Big muscle doesn't stop your speed. No matter what.
If you want bigger muscle while maintaining your speed&agility then just train both of it.

You can't grind down yourself.
This is real life. Not video game where developer have to nerf one stats and the other.

In highschool I never ran faster or jumped higher than when I started incorporating leg training for football(soccer). I trained for both hypertrophy and explosive movements

Most athletes actually do have hypertrophy blocks

depends on your playstyle. Bully ball wings(Malone, Kawhi, late career MJ, etc.) in basketball do a lot of weightlifting for size.

Professional athletes, depending on their discipline ARE definitely training for hypertrophy at one point in their training, mostly off sessions. More muscle means more potential for force production...

So a body builder isn’t a pro soccer or basketball player. THANK YOU so much for clearing this up. Legend

People still have this false idea that if they try to build muscle they are going to end up like one of those unnaturally huge bodybuilders. As long as you stay natural, you won't have much problem, and that muscle (and the strength and power that it produces) will generally give you an advantage in most sports. Even in a sport like football (soccer), being strong definitely helps as is shown again and again by Haaland.
