We are kicking off our new series on 'Why am I getting pain?' in different areas of the body! Louise breaks down the main musculoskeletal causes for pain in different areas of the body.

Today we are discussing the main conditions causing pain around the side of the rib cage, how we assess and test for these as well as links to our full routines to help.

As with all our videos we recommend getting your ribs assessed properly first and seeking advice from a musckuloskeletal expert to determine the correct diagnosis for you and the best course of treatment, exercises and management!

So well explained. I actually have Costochondritis but haven’t had the pain concentrated in this one area and hopefully that’s what it is.

Great video. My ribs began flaring some dull pain after my very 1st overhead press exercise. I have done extensive research at this point so hoping I have all the knowledge I need to prevent this recurring. 🙂

Been through this for a year with two doctors misdiagnosing this, but thanks to you and your exercises and a few chiropractor visits i'm doing better, and the creepy old guy part you're so awesome.

I been having pain in the same area now for 2 1/2 months. It started in the front center of the chest wall for 3 months and shifted to the right rib area. I had so many test performed, several pain meds. I then was refereed to a Costochondritis specialist that did some test, confirmed that it was Costochrondritis and stated it possibly started from a prior injury or strain. He recommended physical therapy which I've been doing now for a month. It's getting better less pain now. What has helped is the stretches and the PT massaging the myofascia area. I will be glad when all this go away.

I get painful cramps in a muscle near the bottom of my ribs on the right and left side. It happens when i am doing situps or when sitting at my desk and slouching causing pressure on my stomach or ribs area.

When I wake up I don’t feel it and when I’m lieing down I don’t really feel it but when I’m at work I feel pressure or sum kind of bad discomfort in my bottom left rib could it be lung related. But I have no trouble breathing.

I started having pretty severe pain in my ribs about one year ago, which has yet to go away. My ribs on my direct sides are extremely tender to the touch, more so on my left side then my right, which leads a bit under the breasts as well.

I cannot understate how much wearing a bra can hurt sometimes either, it feels like every time I wear one, I’m slowly suffocating myself (even though I have talked to people about my bra size and they say it fits perfectly).

In this time I have bought and tried out a chest binder (because I am trans), but have not worn it more then a hand full of times since it was bought around the summer of 2022. I just don’t feel safe wearing it with my ribs acting up, but I can assure you the rib pain was happening long before I ever tried on the binder (which does fit).

I’m hopefully going to be seen by a doctor soon, but I have been extremely worried by the pain, since it has been continuous for about a year, with tenderness not decreasing.

Amazing video. Very informative on types of pain, causes etc. Nothing on what to do about any of them. Just saying

My doc says its costialcongitis or something, but i get pain in Random areas that come and go without warning. Sometimes lasts days. Pain in the sides of ribs, in front center, top bottom... It sucks. Hurts so bad sometimes. Maybe a chiro could help?? Tested my heart and its good, scored a zero on calcium in arteries. Lungs look good from xrays. My doc thinks im nuts. Ill try your advice, you seem like you want to help. Great video by the way. Im a painter, i was thinking maybe it was rib muscles but it feels deep in my chest. I dont know.. God help us all!

I got crazy pain from coughing and it continued to keep reinjuring due to poor medical treatment and sinus infection leading to coughing due to drainage. All of which 4 different doctors ignored. 5th doctor treated the infection which eliminated the cough. Next visit, the doctor tells me they aligned my bones but my ligaments and muscles were all strained and would need extensive physical therapy. Later that day I was having a coffee and started to choke. I rand to the living room and pushed pillows hard against my back in a central point that I actually circled with a marker and told the doctor, the pain starts here. I started coughing and didn't have the same pain. It clicked that it was muscular and transferring pain around. I got out the foam roller and rolled around a bit. This relieved some of the perpetual exhaustion I felt. It was good so I grabbed a racquet ball and put it between the wall and my back so I could move around and rub the area next to the spine where my pain was. This did it! Immediate elimination of the constant exhaustion I felt in my back. No more popping ribs. I can feel the tension melting away. I am going to continue to do this to keep the area happy and start a variety of stretches and exercises to strengthen the areas. YouTube and listening to my body fixed what 5 doctors and countless nurses couldn't. 👍
