One of the problems with treating serious depression is that it isn't logical. This SHOULD help. It makes sense that this would logically help. But it feels futile in the face of a complex chronic illogical hellish low mood. I guess it would help if you were being negative for the sake of it. But depression is not being negative for the sake of it. As Ellie Brosch wrote "there's a difference between not giving a shit and not BEING ABLE to give a shit".
