Very nice move. Menno had also introduced me to cable L.R.s which seem to do a similar job of loading throughout. Placing stretch on the shoulder when you run the cable through your legs. Cable LRa gave me the first clear lateral deltoid definition, and pretty fast too. A peak in the lateral delt, with creases between the three heads. Before it looked like one thick cap.
Also, even though Menno includes similar physiotherapy and bio mechanical info in his Beyesian Bodybuilding course; I wanted to add that LR can be a dangerous lift. So make it safer. Low weights/15-20 reps, and external shoulder rotation is strongly advised(pour the pitchers up).The deltoids get a lot of work from numerous lifts. But this exercise is needed for full development in my humble experience. Due to the big aesthetic gains shoulders give you they are not ever gonu be junk volume. But don’t over do it. The impingement that can happen in most people does not like repetitive motion. I do 3-5 sets a week. As aposed to the 9-15 I do for almost every other weighted resistance exercises. Never making this a power lift. Just a hypertrophic sculpting exercise.

I was doing something along these lines, but actually starting on a flat bench with a dumbbell in my hand. No force at all when the arm is perpendicular to your spine, but great loading when the arm is parallel to the spine.

Just use a cable going across the body at hand height when at your side or a bit lower. That will give you the most resistance at the beginning and a good resistance curve.
If no cable then lay on your side on a mat or bench with a dumbbell at your side and raise it til just before perpendicular to the ground. RIP Doug Brignole

great idea, i'd even do it with a cable attached to a wrap around my elbow (to mimic the position in your video)

Interesting - but can you hold a dumbbell instead? Would find it getting tricky once you can do that with a heavy plate?

Good exercise. What is the difference between this exercise with bent arm and the same exercise with extended arm? I do the exercise very often, but with the arm extended. What is the difference? Thanks

I started doing this exercise, but with dumbell and smaller angle (lower bench). My anterior delts started to get sore first time in years)

This reminds me of those lateral raise machines but done as a free weight exercise. Would you be able to go heavier on this than the standard variation?

I like to stand between 2 floor level cables crossed over to do cable laterals. But will def try this variant when I don't have cables available.

Microloadability would be difficult. Cable lateral raises with the cable at hip height gives the most insane stretch.

I do an exercise with the same posture and body mechanics. But for progressive overload I believe it's better to connect a cable to an ankle strap and then wrap the strap around the upper arm. I will then bend sideways and hold on to the cable tower with the non working arm. Hope that helps somebody

I’ve been looking for something like this. Some gyms have a lat raise that lifts with the elbows, but my gym doesn’t. Plus this has the stretch load. Thanks!

I train 3 times a week (during the day), I do pull-ups, dips, bench press.. (I alternate the exercises). I don't lose strength, and on the pull-ups I even slightly increase my strength, but I started losing size!? why does this happen? (before that I trained in bodybuilding splits, I kept the volume)🤔
