Shawn reviews Pelagius' Commentary on Romans.
I only read the commentary by Pelagius, and I did not read the work of Theodore De Bruyn.
Is Pelagius a heretic? Has the church gotten this man wrong for the last 1,600 years? What would I consider Pelagianism to be after reading the commentary? Please let me know your thoughts on the first British author and commentator on the Bible.

@5:34 I believe this statement by Pelagius is a logical reversal of Augustinian's teaching on Infant guilt. In this statement, the people who were not sinners were infants. Augustine taught that infants are automatically inherently guilty of Adam's sin, even though they didn't themselves sin. If that is true, then its true Christ automatically redeemed the infants without belief. It's a reasonable argument against Augustine's Manichaeist, Stoic and Gnostic belief system. Unfortunately, Augustine had friends in high places and he was aggressive against anyone he deemed standing in his way. John Calvin was cut of the same cloth.

Pelagius would deny TULIP for sure as he should.

@10.00 you say "Here are my thoughts on Pelagius based solely on Romans. I have not read any of his other works so I cannot comment on those". I found the following quote interesting which is attributed to Pelagius: “We have first of all to discuss the position which is maintained that our nature has been weakened and changed by sin. I think that before all other things we have to inquire what sin is, some substance or wholly a name without substance whereby is expressed not a thing, not an existence, not some sort of body but the doing of a wrongful deed. I suppose that this is the case and if so, how could that which lacks all substance have possibly weakened or changed human nature? No will can take away that that which is proved to be inseparably implanted in nature”.

Very insightful. This is also done to Arminius. People speak authoritatively on matters about which they know next to nothing.

Great job. You need to connect with Dr. Ali Bonner and her work on Pelagius. She shows that Augustine was disingenuous.

You stated that man has no need of God's grace but just need to try really hard to do well (loose quote). Is that what Pelagius believed or is that what people (critics) SAY he believed?

Read about his thought concerning eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. He considered it to be a good thing.

Read the Commentaries on the 13 epistles of Paul with the libellus fidei. It will have him writing Innocent I defending himself against Augustines accusations. His beliefs in that letter are Orthodox.
