Cerdic was absolute badass in this scene. No horse, no drawn sword, no threats. And yet he was more menacing than Arthur. Even the horse was scared of him.

Basically the best scene in the movie.

Fun fact: The horse wasn't supposed to act like that. For some reason it just got jittery when they were shooting the scene. Owen and Skarsgård decided to roll with it, and the director thought it seemed too perfect to leave out.

“Ah, finally… a man worth killing.”

I’ve just noticed the little lilting inflection on the last word. Almost as if he’s mildly amused and surprised. Like he’s been slaughtering his way through savages and sheep and given up hope of a decent fight, but here comes this warrior who upends his whole internal prediction of what the rest of his rampage/campaign will be.

Stellan really made this character a standout. Savage but taciturn, charismatic but contemptuous, with a philosophical edge to his impressive martial abilities. Brilliant work.

The Soundtrack to this film is amazingly beautiful. Hans Zimmer, the soundtrack composer, is a genius.

Cedric is like an older version of Ragnar. Dry humor, laid back, relaxed, almost bored yet able to cut your head off if he felt like it.

Stellan Skarsgard is so damn talented at acting, it only makes sense that pretty much all his children who are actors are also damn good, Alexander, Bill, Gustaf all as good as their dad.

This scene shows you can respect your enemy. Cedric respected Arthur.

Badass line. "I came to see your face, so that I alone may find you on the battlefield ".

Man has long hair. Check
He is an excellent swordman. Check
He is cold and unemotional as fuck and speaks in low tones. Check
He demands someone to get on his knees. Check

Heap. Definitely Sephiroth.

The idea of Roman culture in that time must have made people really believe they were Gods.

It's interesting because Bernard Cornwell's historical fiction take on the Arthurian legend- who came out years before this movie did- features Cerdic as well and portrays him in a very similar manner: a cold, soft talking, calculating emotionless yet ruthless and authoritative man who breaks the stereotype of the boorish and loud barbarian chieftain.

Stellan Skarsgard was by a reasonable distance the best thing in this film.

The casting of Skarsgard was so spot on! You really felt the menacing presence, ruthless and barbaric but with some sense of honor.

*took me years to realize it was Skarsgard haha

This film has been one of my favorite historical action/drama's since I first saw it back in 2005. A friend of mine got a burnt copy from his uncle on DVD and we got stoned and watched it after work one night. I love the cinematography in this film and the historic and realistic take on the King Arthur story. There was some super intense scenes and a great pace to the film and I think it's hugely underrated and criminally under appreciated. Great cast and intense battle scenes. Well worth a watch.

WTF is with all the smoke throughout the entire movie? I know it's probably supposed to be mist, but damn, this is England, not Silent Hill.

I really wonder what kind of direction they got for this scene.

Director: So Stellan (Cerdic) you are playing a fearsome and experienced Saxon warlord... you've come out to deliver terms to the enemy leader but I want you to play it bored. Reeeaaally bored and demotivated. Like you're suffering from severe depression and can barely even muster the energy to crawl out of bed in the morning.

And Owen youre playing a legendary Sarmatian Knight but I want you to look like you barely have any control over your mount. Just let it stomp around and circle about aimlessly. Really make the cameraman work to keep you in frame.

That said I really do like this movie.
