You can wrap string around a finger and it compresses it enough to pull the ring off in some cases.

I once got a ring somewhat stuck, not enough that i was sure if it was lubricated enough I could wedge it off tho. I fell asleep with it on, and I panicked when I woke up and my finger got a bit swollen from the trying to tear it off. I tried like 20 tricks before I had to go to school, and my friend told me to ice it and smother butter over it. When I went home I slathered my finger in butter and that thing slid right off lmao
