I love listening to your videos. You have that rare quality of having a proper southern accent yet sounding really intelligent. Your nickname should be diet Shelby Foote, not quite the same thickness but the same great flavor.

I have to say, I remember watching the episode of Civil War Journal: The Superb General Hancock. I thought that was the best documentary on Hancock. This has surpassed that documentary in the completeness of his life and career. With still more to come, i look forward to seeing what the future holds for this series and this channel. Well done, WELL DONE!!

The emancipation proclamation was issued 1 January 1863, just after the Battle of Fredericksburg in December of '62.
I've walked the Confederate gun emplacements on Mary's Heights and Confederate trenches are still visible. Quite a sight to behold. How Burnside ever thought a frontal assault could succeed is amazing.

Hancock should have been given command of the AOP instead of Meade. If he had, I don't think Grant would have had to stay with the AOP the whole time.

I thought this would come until later after the series ended.

Under Hancock the 2nd corps was probably the best in the army of the Potomac

I have often wondered what it must have been like for men, particularly soldiers, to have gone through four years of the most intense kind of life possible, only to have to return to something like normalcy after it was all over.

On one hand soldiers must pray for war to end and for the threat of death to be removed. On the other life after the civil war must have been so colourless for Hancock and the others by comparison. Especially for Hancock since his involvement in the war seemed to fizzle out slowly.

An officer and a gentleman. He respected his position and adhered to his promise to protect the Constitution, unlike some of today’s radical retired “Generals.”

I believe that at some time after the American civil war Hancock ran for president and it's to bad that he didn't win he would have been a good person to be a USA president
