Winfield Scott Hancock: Death and Legacy | Part 19

We have traveled with Union General Winfield Scott Hancock from his early beginnings in Pennsylvania, through the Mexican American War, to Gettysburg, the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and the Presidential Election of 1880. I feel like he is a good friend after reading and making these videos about him. Unfortunately, the series comes to an end. I will be doing another series starting next week and it will be covering a Western Theater Confederate General.

The end of the Thunderbolt, but his legacy would gallop on into legend. An outstanding soldier, an outstanding General, and an outstanding man. An amazing series, I will love to see what’s next.

Many are interested in history and the Civil War and its Generals. Knowledge of said Generals, however, often stops when they either die in battle or when the war ends. This historical treatment show us that life didn't end with the war, and many like Hancock had controversial, political sad and happy episodes in their lives post conflict. I mean Longstreet served as a pallbearer at Grant's funeral for pete's sake. Good job here.

thank you...you have, for me at least, turned a man who was known to me only because he was named
for Winfield Scott, into a flesh and blood human...a human with all the foibles of a man of his age,
but one who had principles that he stuck to throughout his life

It is a good thing that Hancock helped to organize and then lead the funeral procession for Ulysses S. Grant despite their past differences and more to the fact that Grant was Hancock's commanding general and he Grant's good subordinate in the 1864 campaigns. Hancock truly was a superb soldier through and through.

What a wonderful series. I was hooked with the series on Polk, but this series was just so mesmerizing that I hate the fact that it's over.
Hancock was a true man and soldier who was loyal to his word. The kind that I wish was around today.
I can't wait for your next series. I'm dying to know which Confederate General you're doing a series on. Which Union General is next on your list?
Keep up the excellent work. I really enjoy your videos. Oh, we need more videos on the beards of the Civil War. 😀

Fantastic series. How about Custer’s Civil War experience? I’m guessing Longstreet or Beauregard or Ewell

What an ending to the series. It was great. Liked it than Leonidas Polk. This was great than I watched by Keith Carradine.

Just finished the last few of these… tremendously well done, a fitting tribute to a Great War hero… Now I am curious… Longstreet? Ewell? Joseph Johnston? Stuart? Bragg? My guess is Albert Sidney Johnston.

Wonderful
we forget the quality of the fine men of that era.
