For General Hancock, there was only one choice when the question of Secession traveled through the United States. He would remain with the Union and knowing that the war would not be fought in California, at least not the significant battles, he requested a transfer to the East, where he would get his first taste of Civil War combat on the Peninsula in Virginia. It would be here that he distinguished himself in battle.

Hey just re watched the movie Gods and Generals. It is a good movie.three and half popcorn bags out of five rating. The actors portraying Lee and Jackson both do superb jobs.Historical accuracy is spot on unlike most ACW movies.

Very much enjoying this series. I like that you're giving the personalities room to breathe and not just racing from one battle to the next.

Hancock is one of the few northern generals that I respect along with Thomas and Grant. They were fighting men. Much like Lee, Stonewall, Forrest, and Cleburne. Would love to see a story on Patrick Cleburne. Stonewall of the west.

I do enjoy your series. This segment on the Battle of Williamsburg is of particular interest since my g-grandfather was in one of the NC regiments (5th NC) attacking Hancock.

Always a pleasure to watch your vids. I think Hancock was a slightly unsung hero at Gettysburgh, his work setting up the troops on cemetery ridge and shoring up the union position on the night of the first day and over the second day were crucial. I believe also his general demeanor and actions did a lot to keep the Union troops morale up over the course of the battle.

I have to put a plug in for Jed Hotchkiss as a part of this series. His life leading up to and including his service to Confederacy will challange what you think you know about the motivations of those who chose to fight.

He’s my favourite Civil War general, North or South.

Just saying but I just found out interesting fact that regards Winfield Scott Hancock and the interesting fact that I found out is that after he was wounded during the battle of Gettysburg he was taking to one of my 5x great uncles farm Peter Frey farm and Hancock was brought to the farm after being wounded in Pickett’s charge.

Historian: Hancock one time commanded a wing, but it seems he’s most famous as a corp commander. Given his proven capabilities, why, in your opinion, was General Winfield Scott Hancock never given a separate command? Respectfully, WS

This is taking way too long. You're not made for suspense-building Lucas Wilder.
