Healthy Ketogenic Diet and Intermittent Fasting:

In this video, I want to cover what PCOS is and what can cause PCOS.

Symptoms of PCOS:
• Infrequent or prolonged menstrual cycle
• Excess male hormones (androgens)
• Infertility
• Excess hair growth on the body
• Thinning hair on the head
• Acne
• Insulin resistance

Most websites will tell you that the potential causes of PCOS are genetic or maybe environmental. But, I think the missing piece that you need to know is that high androgens can be caused by high insulin. And high androgens may cause many of the symptoms of PCOS.

Unfortunately, insulin levels are rarely checked. You can’t really determine what’s going on with insulin by checking your blood sugar levels. You could actually have normal blood sugars and still have high levels of insulin.

If you’re not sure what causes high insulin, I have a lot of other videos on that topic. Watch those videos and start the Healthy Keto Diet and intermittent fasting.

Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio:

I was diagnosed with PCOS in my early 30s. I started a low carb diet and regular exercise to get lean. Lo and behold, my PCOS disappeared after a year.

I tried EVERYTHING for my PCOS. Keto and IF was the only thing that worked for me. It changed my life in more ways than helping with PCOS. I feel like a completely different person! I'm so happy and thankful to have learned about this lifestyle.

Keto is what my sister did to cure her own PCOS. She went from having a period about once a year, to a perfect 28 day cycle, and now I am an uncle thrice over.

Doctors were no help at all, but fortunately we're a family who loves to do our own research and get to the bottom of things.

Dr. Berg, you are so right on the money here. PCOS causes so much misery. Women are told it's a chronic condition with no hope of fixing and by the way, you won't be having kids. It's just not true; it's an insulin resistance problem and it can be corrected.

I've had pcos since I was 12 years old. I'm 35 now. It's been two decades of a nightmare. I'm so happy to see mother's here commenting on looking for info for their daughter. My mother never took any interest in it, she would simply day that she just didn't understand it. If you have a daughter with any of the symptoms talk to her about it and get her help.

I was diagnosed with pcos in the 90's. The Endocrinologists put me on all different kinds of birth control and androcur meds. All those drugs made me terribly ill. Not much fun for a 14 year old girl at the time. I am glad to see better information and medical resources are being done. Thank you 😊

I discovered that I had PCOS when I was 29 years old by reading a magazine while waiting in an auto shop. I had classic symptoms including weight gain, acne and irregular menstrual periods. No doctor ever mentioned PCOS to me before but mentioned birth control pills to regulate my cycles and droned on about weight loss. I'm glad to see Dr. Berg's video explaining the condition. Many doctors don't discuss it or know very little about it and don't seem to take it seriously. It is frustrating.

I’m 28 years old, from the beginning of my menstrual cycle as a teen it was normally regular, it wasn’t until maybe early 20’s my periods were irregular, one month on one month off. Around 2017, they weren’t as consistent, 2019 I went months without my period! I was also my heaviest around 2019, about 194lbs and 5’2, so you can imagine my bmi. Late 2020 last year, I was officially diagnosed with pcos. And it made me sad to know that I was “infertile” as I wasn’t getting my periods.

That’s when I was sick of being obese and tired of being sadden at the idea of not even having the option to have kids one day and I decided January 17, 2021 at 186lbs to start keto. I won’t say that I loved keto because it’s the drop in carbs and intake of fats but it definitely changed my relationship with food and nutrition that I so desperately needed. You can’t exactly go by the motto “in moderation” when you’ve become your heaviest and at that point it’s hard to reverse. Working out won’t achieve much if your diet is so poor like mine was and I was carrying so much fat it was hard to work out without feeling like fainting! But also don’t listen to people on the internet or in your life who are so negative about keto because it changed my life. I also incorporated intermittent fasting and eventually started doing omad. And mind you while doing keto I barely exercised, I just stuck to a keto diet and the pounds shed.

By May 2021, I lost 28lbs, I weighed 158 at my lowest and then I just received news that I’m pregnant and naturally too! While we didn’t plan to be pregnant, it’s what I asked wanted eventually in life. I worked really hard for only 5 months, and after years of poor eating I was able to reverse it. I’m not at my goal weight which is around 135lbs but if I can do it so can you. By the month of May as it finally became warmer in Toronto, I started incorporating walks, and mini sprints up the stairs outdoors, and it feels completely different working out 28lbs lighter. You feel like you can actually move without being out of breath and in pain. It takes that step and motivation to just one day drop everything and do it! I watched so many of Dr. Berg’s videos to keep going when I wanted to quit. Good luck out there!

I had PCOS. Since I started following Dr. Berg in January 2017 and watching all his videos, it helped me understand this disorder and what to do about it. I did water fasts, keto and IF. After only 3 months of doing so, my periods became regular, I'm healthier and lost weight too. So, thanks Dr. Berg!

I’ve been struggling with PCOS since I was 13 and I’m now 28 and it’s only gotten worse. Doctors have turned me away because I’m skinny. I’m starting the keto diet and will continue intermittent fasting. I hope and pray that it helps. Thank you for the knowledge.

I find it telling how many young woman have either this or endometriosis. I would say 80 to 90% of my youngest daughter's friends, in their mid 20's, have been diagnosed with these. As a retired midwife, I am constantly being asked what to do. I will share this video with them.

Had PCOS as teen/early 20s. Not diagnosed diabetic until 40 years later with full metabolic syndrome suite. This can go on a very long time before diagnosed. Someone with the symptoms Dr Berg describes here could greatly benefit from using PCOS as an indicator that they are on the road to diabetes later in life. It is a real indicator of susceptibility to insulin resistance. Reduce/eliminate sugars/carbs from diet now. Save yourself a lot of trouble. Just like Dr. Berg says here.
