Esthetician here 🙋🏻‍♀️ First of all girl, love the videos I feel like I’m chatting with my bestie about new makeup/techniques! Just FYI dehydrated skin is a skin condition not a skin type. So you can have oily skin and also be dehydrated, confusing I know lol. Dry skin (skin type) lacks oil and dehydrated skin (skin condition) lacks water. I would love to see what skincare you are currently using atm. Thanks for the consistent content! ☺️

This is a common misconception. Your skin can be oily and dehydrated and overproducing oils to compensate. Make sure your skincare has more hydrating ingredients as opposed to moisturizing ingredients because hydration happens from the inside out and moisturizing from the outside in which gives the oily appearance. Save the occlusive moisturizers and oils for nighttime. I finally have my super oily dehydrated skin under control because I make sure to hydrate it properly....

I’m back again with the products in question, but please read my thoughts at the end!

ILIA C Beyond Triple Serum SPF 40 Mineral Sunscreen with Vitamin C 10% + Niacinamide, and ILIA True Skin Serum Foundation.

Neither of these are good for oily, combination, or acne prone skin. The foundation uses a high concentration of coconut alkanes, which is basically hydrogenated coconut oil and sits on top of the skin. The serum sunscreen also contains some potentially pore clogging oils (shea butter esters, capric/caprylic triglycerides) and you’d have to use a ton of it to get the spf indicated on the label.

Lastly, dehydrated skin does not mean dry skin, it’s just like having sensitive skin, you can have it with every skin type. If you do have dehydrated skin, use a hydrating serum, lock it in with a water based moistuizer, and stay hydrated in general. I don’t think these are the right products for you Christie, but if they do work more power to ya!

BRUH, I discovered the same thing about my skin! I heard about a skincare fast, and was so frustrated with my acne, I decided to try it. No skincare for a week, except SPF, of course. I was amazed at how dry my skin became, and how quickly my acne started to heal. Turns out using skincare targeted for oily skin was dehydrating my face and irritating my acne. I’ve completely changed up what I use, and my skin is super glowy and doesn’t overproduce oil now. I’d say I’m more combo to normal. Still working on the acne (also discovered that’s related to some foods I eat), but it was all a step in the right direction! 👍🏼

I am a very dry gal and CANNOT with niacinimide.
FYI Friends with sensitive skin: Niacinimide can make sensitive skin unhappy - all I ever see is people raving about how it’s given them glass skin etc. etc. and it’s in a lot of products now, it rips my face up somehow and I’ve fully purged it from my skincare & makeup with great results

Same goes for oily scalp! If you’re scalp is dry your hair is gonna get greasier quicker

It's not niacinamide that keeps skin hydrated, it's hyaluronic acid which is a humectant so by definition holds onto water molecules and therefore hydrates the skin for longer

Can you make videos about tips to set your make up? We have the same skin type so maybe what works for you will work for me 🙂

I thought dry wasn't the same thing as dehydrated ?! I read you could be oily and dehydrated because dehydration has to do with your skin lacking of water (thus you would need hyaluronic acid to attract water in your skin) which is temporary.
However, dry skin means a lack of oil produced by the skin (then you would need ceramides and fatty acids), which is the contrary to oily skin

I've had a similar experience. I used to think I had combination skin because my skin would be SUPER oily in my T zone.
When I got into a proper skin care routine, my skin completely changed. I now have dry skin and I don't get oily at all.

I mean all oily skin is just technically a dry skin that just happen to overproduce oil to 'hydrate' them. But the oil were just going overboard so...

I was told the same thing so I started using my mom's moisturizer which was for dry and very dry skin. That shit never absorbed into my skin and wiped all over my pillow.

I can relate to this sm. I had normal skin when I was younger but my mom would always wash my face and make me wash my face with scented hand soap from the dollarstore which totally dried out my skin. I didn’t realize you had to have a facial cleanser until it was too late and came to bite me in my teen years. Now I have combination skin. 🤪✌️

I thought I had extremely oily skin causing my severe acne for 4 years. I kept buying oil striping acne products/ oil reducing makeup. It got so bad 90% of my face was covered in open “acne” lesions. Went to a derm demanding accutane. She’s like no stop wait. Turns out I have extremely dry skin. The acne wasn’t acne. I had severe facial psoriasis 🙃 literally evrythng I been doing had been directly aggravating the autoimmune disease and causing more flareups. Lesson learned, your skin is the largest organ you have first line of defence. Take good care of it and take changes seriously. Never in a million years did I think a dermatologist could diagnose me with 4 autoimmune diseases just from my skin. Be kind to your skin folks
