Is Praying to the Saints Biblical?
Показать описание
Veneration of the saints is one of the most misunderstood Catholic beliefs. To truly understand this belief, we only need to go to St. Paul in the Scriptures.
In his letter to the Colossians (Col 1:2,12) and Hebrews (Heb 12:3), St. Paul confirms the saints on earth (what we call the "Church Militant") and the saints in heaven (the "Church Triumphant"). During our earthly pilgrimage, we look to our brethren who have gone before us to heaven.
We remember them and find inspiration in their example and ask for their intercession to help guide us to our heavenly homeland. Although they have passed from this life, they are very much alive in heaven and can hear our prayers and intercede on our behalf (Rev 8:3-4).
This veneration is not worship— which belongs to God alone— but rather it is intercession and a calling of them to help bring us closer to God.
