Praying to Mary

Mary is blessed among women! Yet, I do not think she would appreciate all the exaltation people have tried to give her. This humble, faithful, blessed woman would likely redirect people to the Lord Jesus.

I’d also like to add Luke 11:27-28 “27 While Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that carried You, and the breasts at which You nursed!” 28 But He said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and follow it.”

We only need this one verse

“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭

100% agree. When I was an atheist, I tried astral projection to reach my dead mother. I felt sure that I was speaking to her in the spirit. I quickly realized that it was an evil entity that began grasping at me and abusing me emotionally and mentally. I believe it clung to me for years as my life took a downward spiral. I wasn’t released from this evil until I accepted Jesus.

6 Jesus answered,  “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

As a follower of Jesus, I pray the way He instructed us to: to The Father, in His (Jesus') name.

When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, He never said “Go talk to my mother.”

I’m going through the Gospels again and this struck me.

Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” Luke 11:27-28

And

While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” Matt 12:46-50

It’s clear from scripture we are not to idolise Mary.

I had the most spritual experience with the lord after my misscarraige i just felt his presence his arms wraped around me in my dispair. I believe he showed me my child in a vision to let me know he was ok and happy but did tell me i needed to let him go now. I was in a place where i wanted to hurt myself over what hsppened but the lords strength and support saved my life! I am forever grestful for the expirience he gave me to see him. I don't believe i can pray to my child as such but i believe the lord could bring a person to you to help you heal ect

I really appreciate this message. Catholics don’t quite understand this and that confuses me. Not just with Mary, but many dead Saints. It’s not biblical.

I grew up Catholic, born again Christian now. Jesus is the only way, the truth, and the life. Amen! ✝❤

Christ instructed us to pray to the Father.

The interesting thing you realize when you read the Gospels from start to finish is how Mary doesn't really factor in the story as much as you'd expect. She is barely mentioned in Matthew or Mark, and is only mentioned a couple times in John. It's only in Luke that you get the nativity story, but Mary's role in Luke diminishes precipitously after that. You'd think that if Mary was meant to be such an important figure in a person's Christian life, the Word of God would say a lot more about her.

I always talk directly with Jesus. I took it quite literally and to heart when He said there is no way to our Father except with Him. Dad knows I'm not being disrespectful or ignoring Him by going to his Son. They are as one. ✝️👑🙏🐑🕊

One difference between Jesus and Mary that you’ve made me think about, is that when Mary died, and her spirit went to heaven, but her body decomposed like any other human’s. Jesus is alive, not just in spirit, but in body too, seeing as He was raised at His resurrection.

I’m Orthodox and we pray to and venerate the Saints, as well. It’s truly a lovely practice… Martin Luther prayed the Rosary, btw. Also, a gentle reminder that “pray” means simply “to ask”. That’s it. We ask the Saints to pray for us on our behalf.

Hebrews 12:22-24: “But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.”

As someone who was raised in the Catholic church and has now been born again, I can say that as I now understand it, God wants a personal relationship with us. When Jesus teaches the apostles how to pray, he taught them to refer to God as Father, and when Jesus himself prays and says "Abba Father", which would translate more closely to "Papa" or "Daddy". So with that in mind, He does not want us go through others to ask for them to speak to Him on our behalf. He wants us to come to him directly like a child would to his father.

When the disciples asked Jesus how they should pray he said “our father….” . He didn’t start it “hail Mary…” or “hello Abraham” or “hola Henry ”.
Pray to the father, that is what Jesus taught.

Whenever mankind tries to make God seem inaccessible by placing hierarchies and rituals in the way, I remind myself that a veil was torn when Jesus said ‘It is finished’ and yielded His spirit and deeply reflect on what that means about my relationship with God (more direct than ever). I have plenty of reminders of how unworthy I am for God’s mercy and grace but scripture says that I can approach the throne of God boldly with thanksgiving and praise. I don’t need someone else to do it for me however I do welcome joined prayers from fellowship of other believers in Jesus (people who are alive on earth) and join them in prayer as well for God’s will over our requests and intercession. I can agree with Catholics that Mary is a great woman and her life and story inspire my faith however I’m not praying to Mary nor have I found any scripture to encourage that either. It seems support to do that takes some stretch liberties with scripture and I don’t want to do that. There are plenty of stories of men mistakenly praying/worshiping angels in their presence and angel’s redirecting that glory to God. I think we have a human tendency to worship and glorify things and people that we shouldn’t be and our Father has to reign that in from time to time. Even the early Church got wayward in some of their early practices and Paul had to write letters to help correct and guide and lead us back to Jesus and the Gospel. I know God hears my prayers and have plenty of life testimony to feel rooted in that belief and knowing.

I’m so glad I read this. I’ve been Catholic since being married and have been doing confessions. The priest always gives us “Hail Marys” as what we say at the end (however many). I just listened to Daniel on how it’s COMPLETLY unbiblical to pray to her and saints. It made complete sense. I feel so bad. Also, we only need God/Jesus as our mediator, because He is the one who died for our sins. He wants us to act like we are saved and have faith like we are saved, not needing to have to do 10 Hail Mary prayers after confession. I like this video because it is biblical.
