Thank you! A lot of swimmers get tired because they don’t know how to breathe correctly when swimming. Only the more advanced swimmers feel the burn in their shoulders and legs. Most people can’t even get to that point. Their lungs and their heart start working too fast before their muscles get tired. The rhythm and breathing technique in swimming is unlike any other activity in life. If you do it wrong you’ll get tired very quickly.

This video is gold. Just starting out, and was getting tired after 250m (and needed to stop). Heart racing. Watched this video, applied today, and did 1km non-stop. It's not much, but feels like an incredible achievement to me! My shoulders felt fresh, so I'm not there yet, but I'll keep practicing. Thanks a lot!

I've returned to swimming after break of many years. Previously did not have luxury of Y/T videos and didn't realize just how technical swimming is. Your videos have helped improve my technique and enjoyment enormously. I really appreciate your channel and the effort you put in, particularly that you give very clear and well thought-out explanations, so now I better understand not just what but why!! Great Channel. Thank you so much.

My grandpa was a Navy Seal and when I was a kid, he taught me to breathe calmly while swimming so I wouldn’t get out of breath. He could stay underwater for such a long time, I always was scared he had drowned!

I'm actually seeing and feeling a major difference in my swimming just from your videos. Without a swimming coach. The breathing technique you mention to time the breath is actually working for me. It works better for me not to blow out through the nose immediately. On my way up to take a breath Is when I let the breath out through the nose. Thus technique works 100%. I could never swim past two laps in the pool. Now I can swim 2 laps and rest for a minute and then swim two laps again. I did this for like an hour in the pool. The thing I'm working on is to use my forearms too to swim

Hi, I'm a lifeguard and swim instructor and have been swimming recreationally my whole life so my muscle memory is very strong and I must unlearn it especially breathing. My issue is not CO2 or exhales, I think my issue is primarily my timing I also grew up with bi-lateral breathing, which is every 3 strokes. I'm looking to change this so I'd love a more detailed breathing video with drills to help unlearn preexisting muscle memory. P.s. I LOVE your channel!

This is actually an important concept in learning how to play a woodwind instrument. Regulating the feeling of needing to take a breath, but needing to continue to exhale until all of your last inhalation is out is some thing that students work on well into college. Interesting video!

This was definitely my biggest challenge last month and having to do an 11 min 400m for the first time! I considered myself a good swimmer but I was IMMEDIATELY humbled when I realized how hard it was to maintain any kind of pace with my sloppy breathing technique. I've been practicing and getting better, in part thanks to your vids! 👍👍👍👍

I was never able to swim more than 50-100m in a row until I practiced this drill of breathing every 4-6-8-10. Now I can swim 200M or more. I'm also able to do 25M without breathing at all. This Channel has some of the best drills and tips for quick learning. 3 months ago I couldn't even do 25M in freestyle. Also I love A-Aron!

Thanks for the vid, took me a while not to feel anxious breathing. What really helped is doing a warm up of laps slowly, as relaxed as possible with zero effort. This means concentrating on a zero effort catch/pull by using the body rotation and 2 beat flick. My bpm around 135 or less. I find once I get up up to 500m, I am used to the water, my body is warm and breathing is nice and controlled. After this warm up I find I have full awareness/control of my body where I can go a harder/faster but then slow down to catch my breath, change stroke style, kicks etc without needing to stop as my body is so accustomed to the water. Also for breathing itself for me learning to breath in my mouth and out my nose worked the best ie nose and mouth do one job only. i also breath out little out as my head enters the water to take some the pressure off my chest (again to feel relaxed) then as I rotate to take the next breath (I breath every stroke) i do a controlled exhale to create a small vacuum for the next breath. Doing this i went from only being able to do anxious 50m laps having to break to going to 1km + non-stop with the ability to do more without feeling tired. Also if you struggle to float like me I also recommend checking out the total immersion method especially the stuff on body balance + proper stroke.

This video is fantastic! I have been struggling with breathing while swimming for many years. This explanation finally connected the dos for me. I am sure that the many videos that I watched also explained it right, but I didn't get it until I watched this one. I particularly like the animations. Yesterday I was able to swim 1000 mts with only short (1~2 sec) stops at each end of the pool and ended up tired but not agitated (that makes sense to me!) you!👏

Hi! Lifetime weightlifter here. I began swimming a couple of years ago and it's now a main activity in my lifestyle. I love it! It's such a great compliment to my weight training, and vice versa. Train smart and have fun :)

I just finished my swim today. I've learned how to breathe just a week ago and getting better every time. I still have a huge problem with getting out of breath at the end of 25m and my heart rate is throught the roof. Maybe this exercise will help me somehow to be calm. I'm not panicking, but this breathing thing is so unnatural. I don't know If I'm breathing too much or exhaling at the wrong time, it does not feel right yet for some reason.

Your videos helped me to stick with swimming both theoretically and practically since the pandemic of 2020. Now I firmly believe that I can do some good work for the nation and the world at large.

Thank you! Your video helped me learn to swim in just one month, people been complimenting me and couldn't believe I never swam before in my life until this sumeer.
I learned the swimming technique via another of your excellent tutorials, but this one helped me improve my breathing technique in a few days by paying attention. Now I both can swim longer than just a week ago and feel myself more comfortable doing bigger number of strokes before breathing.

Being an average swimmer with no goals, your videos really were an inspiration. I believe we tend to believe we exercise to maintain a steady image of ourselves so most of the time we overlook things the pros do cause they are not like us... it is funny how the pro approach could provide inspiration.

This is how it clicked for me as well. I realized I was having mini-panics when I was starved for a breath, which made me do my stroke faster so that I can breathe sooner, but that way I use even more oxygen and I need a breath even more, and it's a vicious cycle. When I started concentrating on not panicking and remaining relaxed my swimming immediately improved.
