We do it as long as we live but mostly aren't aware of it: breathing. In his talk Lucas breaks down the fundamentals of yoga breathing in a way that you can easily remember and apply to your practice. Lucas shows us how three breathing practices - water, whiskey, or coffee -
can be used as a tool and help us to overcome any situation.
With a formal yoga training background in Hot Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Gravity Yoga, and the Yoga Trapeze®, Lucas has studied with some of the most well-respected teachers on the planet. His most influential teachers (all of whom he studied with personally) include Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Paul Dallaghan, Alex Medin, Gabriel Cousens MD, and SN Goenka.

Lucas founded Absolute Yoga Academy in 2006, one of the top 10 yoga teacher training schools in the world with 2,000 certified teachers (and counting) and courses in Thailand, Holland, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines.

In search of nutritional products designed specifically for achy yoga students’ bodies, Lucas worked with senior nutritional formulator Paul Gaylon and founded YOGABODY Naturals in the back of his yoga studio a year later. The company has gone from strength to strength and is now a world-renowned nutrition, education, and publishing organization serving 81 countries.

In 2013, Lucas founded YOGABODY Fitness, a revolutionary new yoga studio business model that pays teachers a living wage and demystifies yoga by making the mind-body healing benefits of the practice accessible to everyone.

I'm so lucky. I was/am one of his students. He makes everything so simple and easy to understand, no matter how difficult it is. It's really an art 'cause not every teacher can do that. He's humble and very friendly. His classes are always funny. He makes everybody feels at ease. Wonderful teacher 💚💚💚

I tried water breathing during my daily walks. 4 in and 4 out. counting. My speed went from 2.9 mph to 3.3 mph and it was effortless. Not only that, I felt lose, relaxed. It was easy. Before at 2.9 it was hard work and I felt tight, anxious. And the counting cleared my mind. Before it was like a washing machine of thoughts that had nothing to do with the task at hand. I guess this is called mindfulness. Thank you Lucas.

Take control of your mind, body and nervous system through breathing:

Water - inhale 4, pause a beat, exhale 4, pause a beat - repeat. Balancing effect on nervous system. Practise all the time. Do any time you need balance.

Whisky - inhale 4, exhale 8 - repeat. After 10 rounds parasympathetic nervous system engages - rest and digest. Use sparingly eg to help sleep or if your head is buzzing after a busy day.

Coffee - use sharp shooting exhale breaths from lower abdomen. Relax shoulders and body. Exhale repeatedly to fast beat eg 3 repetitions of 16 breaths. Use sparingly as this cranks up your body energy eg 3 rounds of 20 in the morning or before exercise or at 3pm in the afternoon when you have a dip.

In all these three techniques use your belly to inhale and to exhale. It's very important. When you're inhaling start expanding your abdomen, then ribs, then chest, when exhaling - all the way back- chest, ribs, abdomen. Except for the "coffee" breathing. There you only use your abdomen, concentrating on diaphragm 🙏
