So are you good or bad at asking stupid questions? Let me know!

I love it when managers say " there's no dumb question" - such a patton answer - then in the next sentence they complain you don't get it

I've always felt dumb and incompetent and it gets much worse if i am under pressure. I think i need to see a therapist again.

After 11 years in IT, the thing that works best for me is to say "just to clarify, xyz is what you're wanting, correct? If not, I need you to explain it a different way." I've never had someone get upset at that.

I have worked in many places where people purposely withhold information, not only to make you look dumb but to make them look like they are the MVP and the greatest asset in the team. Toxic and almost bullying, like you said - don't stay where these kinds of behaviours occur!

I use to think that my coworkers are going to get tired of me cause I feel like I ask them a lot of things. Every time a new challenge comes and I have to ask how to do something cause I have no idea, I get anxious and scare. They have always been nice to me, but I can't avoid the feeling. You're video has make me feel better, now I understand asking for help is not as bad as I thought.

I started my first job 3 days ago, and I’m really having a hard time. I don’t normally learn things the first time around. Normally, I ask them a few stupid questions, but not too many because I don’t want to bother them. Thank you though for bringing this logic into it.

UPDATE: I made a comment on this video 2 years ago. I can't believe I made it! I'm still working at the same workplace, and guess what, I got a raise two times. So, hang in there and do your best. Prayer always works.

This is most serious problem at workplace and most common... Nobody talks about this... Thank you for great tips....

Fascinating how this "not asking questions" habit can start early on in life, and people can still suffer this self-doubt in adulthood. Thanks for the reassuring content, Natalie!

I always feel dumb when I don't understand something that's been explained to me more than once. I just suffer in silence and become panicky because I don't know what I'm doing. I went through the same thing in math class! I never understood what was taught and would have to wait till I got home to relearn it for myself in order to do my homework. Thank you for this!

I am a Registered Nurse whose last job closed after having worked there for 11 years. Although I found a new position, I was surprised at how stupid I felt in my new environment. Your video is very helpful- Thank you.

I overthink everything I do and when I get home from work. I was stressed about work related stuff glad I came across this video. I’m glad I’m not the only one who struggles. I forgot to overlook a document and now I’m so stressed and didn’t initial off and now I’m scared of getting in trouble for not signing off a document.. that is dated for a certain day.. the anxiety !!!

If I had you as a teacher when I was a child I would have been a long ways ahead of the game. Thank you for the positive message.

I still struggle with this every day at my job and in life in general. I'm afraid of asking to explain things again because of social anxiety and looking stupid. Also i'm a visual learner so if i can't imagine or visualise something it can be hard for me to wrap my head around. Everything just has to happen so fast and information gets exchanged so fast and you're just kinda expected to be able to pick up on it right away. I just don't function that way. When i get any piece of information my brain needs time to go trough that very thoroughly. And i can't just write down or record everything all the time. In life you have to be able to think and respond fast and be quik on your feet. But i'm the total oposite. That's why i'm better at writting i think because i can write it over and over again until i have perfected what i wanted to articulate... It's just very exhausting to have to go trough life like that tbh. I feel like a lot of people think that i'm dumb a lot of times And then i'm agh if only i could explain how my brain works but then i'm like Oh wel they don't care and they can't relate, and it 'd probbly be even weirder if you all of a sudden start ranting about stuff like that to justify your lack capability so then i just don't and let them think i'm stupid anyway :)

Thank you for this. I work at a a company with a bunch of smart, sharp people. I feel like I’m the dimwit at times. But I remind myself that I’m here to learn and grow. I outgrew my last role and that’s why I moved up to this one. One day I’ll outgrow this role too.

This is the perfect message for me. I am at a new position and my trainer is extremely fast and she will say things like, "I have told you this before" or "we talked about this." So I was feeling mad at myself.
Your message has helped me so much. In my 90 day review it was really awesome. So thank you. Also I will continue to ask questions even if they are the SAME questions over and over again.
I will try the flattery comments and I am sure it will work because she is very narcissistic.

Great video. I don't and won't call myself dumb but I do get frustrated with trainers who are good at their job but hopeless at training. I always take notes which absolutely help me. No good trainer will think it's a stupid way to learn. I have learnt when I've trained people that everyone is different and everyone is only as good as hiw they have been trained. So everyone reading this, I believe you can do anything when you put your mind at rest and just know you are amazing 👏

😢 Thank you so much for this video. I started a new job and literally did the exact thing you are speaking about “labeled myself dumb ahead of time because I didn’t get it”
